Why do people persist in calling it a Whitepaper?

What *is* that? I mean, who talks about a Mac Big, or a Benz-Mercedes, or the States United (except for the French)?

It's a Paperwhite, and it's never had any other name.

(There, that's my beef for today.)

Cyndie says:
I agree with you here. The name isn't that hard. One that irritates me even more is "Paperweight".

Also, why do people refer to Amazon as "Kindle"?

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 13, 2013 6:12:29 PM PST
Or some people who refer to their Kindle as a kendal!

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 13, 2013 6:51:11 PM PST
Because people don't read, obviously. ;)

I think that one's Autocorrect. :0/

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 13, 2013 8:15:55 PM PST
Because the default auto-correct on most browsers wants to change "Paperwhite" to "Whitepaper."

John - That always makes me think of "Ken doll" instead and makes me giggle. I know that's dorky, but hey...

Ken doll is Barbie's pimp, and G.I. Joe is her most frequent customer. How else do you think she affords the Corvettes, Malibu Beach Dream Houses, high fashion clothes, etc?

Probably that's for the same reason people refer to Norton as a company, rather than "Norton made by Symantec".

So Irene, what's a whitepaper? I've never had an auto-correct do it to me (not in Word, Firefox or IE), and while I know what a "white paper" is, I don't know what a "whitepaper" is.

One of the first "white papers" was attributed to Churchill in 1922. Usually refers to a governmental paper.

I've also seen Kindle White and Kindle Paper used.

And Kindlewhite at least once, I think. :-/

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 14, 2013 12:28:40 AM PST
Exactly. A "white [space] paper". Not a whitepaper with no space. So why would auto-correct suggest it?

She's a doctor AND an astronaut AND a lawyer AND a veterinarian AND a...

No, no. She's just divorced. From Ken.

Must've had a good pre-nup :-)

I remember my friend and I wondering what happened to poor Ken. We had brothers and knew what boys had that we didn't. Poor Ken. How did he go pee-pee?

Same as Bobbit does, I imagine. Or ... I'd rather not.

CBP the bookworm says: "Exactly. A 'white [space] paper'. Not a whitepaper with no space. So why would auto-correct suggest it?"

Probably because the single word version is also used. Less frequently, but still used. Esp in tech and IT.

Simple ignorance should never be ruled out, either.

Norton used to be a company, started by Peter Norton, and they published quite a few software tools for MS-DOS. Symantec bought them out. I'm not sure if Symantec ever created a product. As far as I know they've only bought companies and incorporated their products.

Norton Antivirus, by the way, used to be IBM Antivirus till Norton bought it from IBM. Under IBM it came with a reward. If you bought their program and ever got a virus they gave you a lot of money. I think it was $100,000 but I'm not sure now. Nice guarantee. Symantec was wise to drop that. :)
