Hi all,

New to Kindles. I've got a Touch and I'd like to keep reading a book from it on my Android phone but things aren't working. The book on my Touch refuses to show up in the Amazon list... (Wi-Fi is on, the Touch is registered on Amazon and I have both WhisperSync on and have tried Sync'ing it manually). Some books show up, others don't. Will things that originate on my Touch, show up in the Amazon Library?

Thoughts?

Thanks,
David

Wifi=whispersync. Go to the manage your kindle page and make sure that each device is listed as an option as where to send books/stuff(drop down menu labeled "actions"). Now check your library and make sure all the books are there. Then "sync" each device. If that doesn't do it then you need to call amazon customer support.

Yeah, the few things that are listed on the Amazon page, do list all my devices as options to deliver it to..but that's not really my problem. The problem is that the books on my Touch will not up-link to the Amazon library so I can then use them with my phone too.

I'll give Amazon support a call and see what they can do.

Thanks. :)

Well, we tracked down the problem. It seems that the only books I can sync with other Kindle apps are books I've bought from Amazon. Gutenberg Project books and such won't show up on the Amazon Library. Thanks for hamstringing my reader Amazon.

You seem to expect something that is not normal for ANY ereader. Why would you do that?

Jazzy / vjv: I do not know my brother-in-law's middle name either but what does not being able to name something have to do with Amazon making it so that the only books you can sync on it are the one's you buy from it? This post was not a comparison between readers, nor was it really a slam on Amazon. It's their hardware, they can do whatever the like with it, and apparently they want to make it a proprietary as possible. I don't have to be happy with it, but kudos to them. I've started another post asking for help around this issue...if either of you have any helpful (or not, the internet is open to all) info on the subject, feel free and hop over and comment.

I have had issues synching my kindle touch with my iPad2 with 2 different books. I cannot remember did I purchased the books on the kindle or the iPad. Should I only purchase books on the Kindle touch ?????????

This helps a lot. I'm a new Kindle user also, and was frustrated all evening trying to figure out why syncing my Android's Kindle reader app with my Kindle Touch doesn't make the same items appear on both. My Android reader has 3 free books (classics like Treasure Island) on it that I guess loaded on their own as freebie introductions to the reader, and my Kindle has "documents" on it that were loaded directly onto the Kindle and not through an Amazon purchase. None of those things appear on the other reader after syncing. If the only things that sync are purchased items, that'd explain everything, but makes the Kindle concept less impressive to me since I can't read the same stuff on both devices if I happen to be reading a free item.

I agree with the general dismay expressed by many in this thread. This limitation, whether shared by other e readers or not, doesn't seem to fit with Amazon's comittment to excellant customer service. This seems more like an Apple move.

I have the same problem - I have a Kindle touch and can't sync all my books to my phone but the ones on my phone aren't necessarily the ones I bought from Kindle. I'm thinking there's still something we're missing here...

Might as well list my complaint. Received two kindle fire books yesterday with nice gray blank covers. Amazon CS could not resolve this for me. Also sent a gift book to my daughter but getting it to her has become nearly impossible for some reason. That said the Amazon CS folks can't be faulted for not trying and trying and trying.

Okay, whine finished.

If the publishers haven't set cover art, there is nothing Amazon can do.

For everyone else, have you tried sending your personal documents to your kindle app? Your Android (or iPad) readers should have an @kindle.com email address associated with them, send the personal documents to that email and it will show up on your device. Not sure if it will sync, but it will definitely be there.
