I have yet to understand the desire for a fire with a camera. Where do people go with their tablet but without their phone?

I want Skype. I need a camera and a Mic!

Carrie C. says:
If Amazon had added all the features that some users want (front facing camera , back facing camera, microphone, sd slot, free 3G wireless data plan included) there is no way that they would have been able to sell the Fire tablets for $199. So if a camera is a must have feature for you, then you have two choices: purchase a competitor's product (such as an Ipad) or wait and see what Kindle Fire v. 2.0 has to offer.

Adding those features would make the device cost no more than $299, a price safely within the clouds. Apple's prices would still have you somewhere in the exosphere.

Then you don't need the Fire.

Kidnle Fire without a Camera and mic is a very big upset and disppoinment.

Posted on Sep 29, 2011 1:31:24 PM PDT
Kidnle Fire doesn't need a camera. It is a consumption device.

Then don't buy it.

If you want to use skype get a computer not a tablet.

Cix says:
You can velcro a small digital camera to the top of the Kindle Fire. you will then have a camera on it.

My son was in a little program a couple months ago. There were 11,000 of us parents and grandparents all holding up their cameras (and cell phones) to take snapshots of our little darlings.

Until a guy down front holds up some giant tablet at arm's length, like a big rectangular crucifix, and blocks like 1/3 of the kids from view from the people behind him. It was crowded, and I couldn't get anywhere else to take a picture.

Hence, I don't have one picture of my kid in the program that does NOT have this guy's hairy arms outstretched in the foreground. Buy a freakin' camera.

Edited for spelling.

That is not their aim. They want to saturate the market. Later when a user base is built a 300 dollar item will be an easier sell.

I will be happy if I can move photos into the KF and get away from the Emily Dickinson screen saver. She scares me and her eyes follow me all around the room!

Why would most of you put your friends and family through the horror of looking at your faces while talking? Listening is bad enough most of the time.

I wonder how fast it processes info. Can I ink-write on it? Can I plug in a 8 MegaPixel camera?

No camera and mic kills this device for me. I was decided on buying it until I found out. I would be happy with the simplest camera and mic for skype. This shouldn't add that much cost to it.

sounds like it has some sort of a USB port - hence camera can be plugged in. in my case i use camera to quickly scan and save documents when I need or pages etc.
