I've lost my kindle and I want to temporarily deregister it in the hopes that I find it and can turn the registration back on. Or perhaps turn off 1 click buying so whoever found it doesn't get to go to town and buy everything on my account. How can I do this?

Go to http://www.amazon.com/myk, click on Manage Your Devices (on the left) and deregister your Kindle. You should also call CS so they can block your Kindle from being registered to another account.

You can easily undo both the deregistration and the block when you find the Kindle.

Up top under 'Your Account' click on 'Manage Your Kindle' the on the left you'll see 'Manage Your Devices' where you can deregister. If you get it back, you can always register it again.

OK, it's here somewhere, but I simply cannot find it. Is there anything I can do -- like a phone locator --???

I ended up calling http://amazon.com. they were very helpful and put a lock or freeze on it so no one could buy stuff for it. and when i found it, they re-registered it and unlocked it also.

No, Kindles do not have any kind of locator devices in them.

How do you misplace a Kindle?

Come on Jazzy, anyone can misplace anything, it happens.

I understand this. My car is a black hole.

Months.

As has been said in other posts, you don't need an apostrophe to make a word plural.

I guess I must be the exception to the rule. I have never lost anything.

Not at all. I have always remembered where I left something.

So true. I have lost my mind of several occasions.

Except when you forget, I am sure ;)

Reading Packing for Mars: The Curious Science of Life in the Void, apparently losing things is a major problem in weightlessness. Stuff doesn't fall to the "floor" so it drifts into any nook and cranny. Also you can't just set something down, because there is no gravity to hold it in place. So you have to attach everything to a velcro patch or zip it up in a pouch anytime you let go of it.

I would be in serious trouble.

I would just get about a million of these GBC BadgeMates Retractable Badge Reels, 5 per pack, Color May Vary (3747217) and attach them all over my flightsuit. Everything would be clipped on one, pens, tools, snacks, everything. I would probably end up looking like Oscar the Grouch's Christmas tree.
