I recently tried to use Whispersync for Voice. I accessed this via the main homepage menu > books & audible > whispersync for voice > see your matches. And I got a selection of books that were "audio companions for kindle books" both at a small cost and free. However when I clicked on the "upgrade with audio for $" button I got an error message advising "something went wrong".
I first contacted audible support who advised I should contact Kindle support. I had a long live chat with kindle support and they advised two things;
1. Audible content is unavailable in Australia, and
2. My 1st gen paperwhite isn't a match with whispersync.

As I have a kindle touch that I can use instead of the paperwhite my question is...
Has anyone in Aust / NZ used / upgraded with the audible matches? (I question this as I've used audible as a member in the past and whilst some things weren't available - it did work.)

Any help and advice that you can offer is welcome. Thank you

My first question would be, have you converted your Amazon account to the Australian Amazon site? If so, then I suspect that might be the issue with the first point. Audible content is definitely available in Australia if you're on the US site, but at this point in time the Australian site is extremely limited. You can switch back, though. (Most of the regular Aussies around here have decided to stay with the US site.)

But the PW is also probably part of the issue. PWs don't have audio, so you can't download audio books to them. That shouldn't stop you buying them, though - it would just mean you need some other device (or app) to download to, and you may need to have that registered with Audible before making the purchase.

Thank you for your reply.
I've not converted my account to the Australian Amazon site as I didn't want to risk losing access (thanks for confirming my suspicions).

As a further question. Have you purchased audio books? If so, have you done this via or via the "see your matches" results page?

I don't think you would lose access, per se - at least, not to what you've already bought. But what's available on the Oz store is a lot less than on the US store (they don't even have gift cards, for example).

I've purchased heaps of audio books, but none via the see your matches page. I can't see why there'd be any issue with that, though, and certainly the CS rep was incorrect when s/he said Audible content isn't available in Australia. I suspect they meant "via the Australian Amazon site".

I don't have any that are free, but a couple (not by narrators I'd willingly listen to, though LOL) for 99c if you really need someone else to test the process from their end.

Thanks for your help. I've since dealt with Audible and the problem seems to have been that I previously had an audible account (even though lapsed) and I had to merge this with my Amazon account. Audible content is definitely available (without needing to convert to the Aust Amazon store) but unfortunately, my $0 books disappeared (knew that was just too good).

Ah, the non-merged accounts makes sense. Shame you lost some books, though at least they were freebies.

I'm glad they were able to sort it out for you - another credit mark for Amazon/Audible's customer service. And I'm glad I could help, even if it was only to verify that you *can* buy Audible books here, and give you the assurance to insist they dig a bit deeper to figure out what the issue was.
