Gudday all
I have turned on my PC Kindle for the 1st time in about 2 months. All of my bought books won't open. I am told to delete them and reload. The free books seem not to be affected.
What has happened and how do I do what is required? Am I able to reload previously bought books?
I noted that I have no archived items. Is that an issue?

John Mann says:
If you remove the books from your reader, you should be able to get them from the cloud archive after syncing the reader (they'll show up in the archived items list). If you delete them from the Manage Your Kindle list, they will be gone forever.

Try this: After deleting, go to Manage My Kindle and have the books delivered via Wifi to your Kindle. Now go to Kindle PC and they should show up under archived books. Double click on each and you will see them download.
I had your problem for a long time and found this method by trial and error.

K4PC sometimes has issues. I had this issue for a number of months. About 40% of my books wouldn't open. Some people say unregistering the app and then rebooting the computer, then open the app and register when it asks you to will help. It didn't for me but worth a try.

Some suggested uninstalling the app and then rebooting the computer and reinstalling. That didn't work for me but worth a try.

I took the computer back to factory original and reloaded everything. That worked for me so obviously some of my Windows files were corrupt. IMO that would be my last step.

You can also contact Kindle tech support. They may have more steps to try. Click on help at the top of this page and then the contact up button on the next page.

Thank you all for your advice. I deleted the books from my PC Kindle OK. Went to my account and downloaded again. Nothing happened for quite awhile then I remembered to sync and there they were. It even remembered where I had got to,

Interesting. I am having the same problem, however there is a twist. When im at work. i cannot access certain books on my kindle pc program. When i take my laptop home, i am able to view the same books with no problem. This is without any kind of download, reinstall, etc.

Kevin -- If the problem is only at work, then perhaps your employer's network and firewall are blocking access for some reason. Do the books being blocked differ from those not blocked books in some sort of characteristic, like which format they are in, or what sort of content?

In reply to an earlier post on Jul 12, 2013 1:17:50 PM PDT
Charlie, I did think that. However i can download open and read novels, fiction if you will. The book in question is a text book that was purchased, not rented, from amazon.

Thanks for the help!

Check for a device limit on those.

ETA: Actually, never mind. If it's the same laptop that probably doesn't explain it unless it's about the IP address. I'd contact Kindle customer service.

There is a device limit. But i'm not over it. Hmmm...I'll have to try from a public wifi tomorrow. See if it is the same?

Got me. These are downloaded, though, right, you're not using cloud reader? I'm just curious.

In reply to an earlier post on Jul 12, 2013 7:56:22 PM PDT
Correct, they are downloaded.

Yeah, this is weird. I had a re-released e-book once that was fine one for however many days in a row and then one day I opened a different one and when I went back to it the next time, it said it wasn't licensed to me. Ultimately, deleting and redownloading on two devices didn't resolve it, and customer service was able to "reset" the e-book within my account.

Keep us posted.

Do you, by chance, have two different profiles on your laptop - a work one and a home one?

I'm thinking something like normally buying from the home profile, but having been logged in to the work profile when you bought that textbook.

In reply to an earlier post on Jul 13, 2013 3:13:26 AM PDT
Nope, single profile. :)

I have this problem all the time, even tonight for two just purchased books. The whole reason theses books are purchasd are so I can take them with me when I do not have internet access. All in all kindle PC is very questionable software. By the way I have designed and written software for over 32 years. This is inexcusable these problems continue.

I have books on an iPod and now have bought a Droid phone with Kindle installed. Only some books successfully can be read, and others cannot. The ones that cannot download, then the Droid says to remove this file and try again. Sync is turned off on my account, and both devices are on the same account. Sure wish I could get both my iPod and Droid to load all the books. This ought to be simple, but somehow it is not. The frustrating part is that only some of the books load, and others don't, which makes me think that there is still a DRM issue with the Kindle Android reader.

Same problem I have a kindle fire and kindle for pc. My kindle works fine but the pc app is a pain. I could not open any books so I deleted and downloaded the books, no still didn't open. Then I deleted and deregistered the pc followed by downloading, registering and syncing, it worked for 11 hours. Next morning of 40 of 40 books I tried opening randomly none will open. I have 700+ books in kindle format.
I have no idea what could be the problem sorry I cannot help but it appears there must be a glitch in the software for it to happen to so many people. I use an Acer aspire in 64bit with Windows 7.

try deleting books from PW and convert files to azw3, then if problem persists delete other copies of the said book such as mobi or epub.

I downloaded the latest version of Kindle for P.C. I had one book archived and downloaded a new one. The new one won't open no matter what I do (delete and re download, re download Kindle etc) and the archived one keeps saying download fails. Just about ready to go postal unless someone has valid suggestions as to how to resolve this.
