Joe says:
I have a Kindle HD. Is it possible to use a server in my home in order to store photos, music, etc and have the Kindle access it similar to how I can access my stuff on the Amazon cloud?

In reply to an earlier post on Jan 15, 2014 4:30:56 AM PST
I'm just a little too nasty to answer that. You might decide to root something and then it would be MY fault. ;)

Joe says:
Thank you for perfectly making my point. You obviously do not know the answer to my question but find it simply to difficult to say nothing. Instead something drives you to get sarcastic as before.

There is a quote which applies to you.

" Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt."
- ABRAHAM LINCOLN.

Mike Smith says:
The answer is yes, you can do this. There are several apps that accomplish this. Plex is one that I know of, but there are several more if you go look for them.

B. Marks says:
You can do or approximate that without rooting in a number of ways. You can use ES File Explorer or Wifi Explorer to copy files back and forth between your Fire and your server. You can store your files in a shared Dropbox folder. You can install something like Plex on both your Fire and server. You can install Splashtop Server on your server and the client on your Fire.

I'm not sure I've actually done any of these on the Fire although I've done them all on other tablets. I've probably tried some of them on the Fire. They should all work on them if all the software is available for the Fire.

As for Lucy's comments, her answer was also a valid answer, pointing you in a direction that would work, and also containing a warning. I thought it was a good response. Too bad you didn't get it.

Barry

Again, everyone here is a volunteer. I might have great advice about the Keyboard, but not the Touch, since I don't have one. It all depends what your question is.

But here's the thing. How did you ask? If you come into a community (for that is what it is, here) with both guns blazing, going, "What is WRONG with this @#$% %$#@ thing?", etc... you're going to get answers in kind.

Also, if what you post is ~clearly~ foolish, you're going to be told so. That's the interwebs, hon. Ask nicely, and help you shall find. Be "combative", as you put it, and it comes right back at you.

The comment Lucy made about rooting was due to a comment Joe made on another thread that was about rooting.

The Help Forum would probably be more helpful.

Mike and Barry gave you suggestions.

You're right; I was including the information that Peachy mentions. You kind of ticked people off elsewhere, so now they don't want to talk to you.

I should have included that in the explanation.

Yes, saying <<The caliber of people here on this forum is attested to be their unsympathetic and in many cases downright nasty responses to your issues.>> kinda made me not want to be all that nice to him.

WOW - everyone is so touchy today - you all need to find out why - and root it out - Joe - you really did ask for what you got after remarks on the other thread:)

Blinken says:
Nope. For anyone else, maybe. But he's on ignore for all of us, because he was abusive and insulting to the KHF Pros, and then to the GHF Pros when he moved over there.

I find it hypocritical, Joe's comment above about the 'warning' above, for he quite proudly proclaimed when he'd reported *us* for abuse. Something about threatening to getting Amazon to deal with us, too. Reporting us for abuse, presumably, for failing to not answer him there; not answering, after pointing to his insulting and posts elsewhere.

In reply to an earlier post on Jan 15, 2014 7:04:07 AM PST
I didn't realize he'd already been over there.
Burning all his bridges sounds like.

KessaJo says:
Wow! Really? I have only met one "pro" that I thought was abusive - they are no longer a "pro."

Everyone is nice & helpful.

Sometimes when I see someone accuse a Pro of being... I think that some people think that being honest is the same as being mean, nasty, abusive, etc.

KessaJo says:
He should have been chastised - you root a device & it goes wrong, it is totally your fault & you deserve no help.

It voids the warranty for a reason. The person had no business rooting it if they didn't know what they were doing.

But they can do as they like, it is his Kindle, but then to come on the forum asking for help - that's just too funny.

He should have called Amazon - not posting it on the Internet.

You act no different than those you are chastising.

And just a BTW, the Pro's don't get paid, they do not work for Amazon - they are customers, just like you are. They are as free as you or I am of saying of what they think & feel on the forum.

There is no higher standard for them to have to live up to.

They got to be Pro's because they have helped a lot of people - they do not get paid for it - they do it on their own time with no compensation.
