I am looking to get a kindle Fire HDX 7" for my daughter in law. I have know idea which to get, 16 or 32gb. She will be using it for books, internet, maybe email, pictures and possibly other things. With the Cloud is it necessary to get the 32gb.

Thanks for your help

Pictures, apps and videos are the items that fill up storage the quickest. Get the 32 if it's within your budget.

The things that take up the most space are movies and audio books. If she's not going to want to download a bunch of those, then 16gb would be okay (unless she has thousands of songs, those would take up a lot of room, too). It's really hard to say, but I bought the 16gb for myself. You get about 11gb of user space.

Edit: I was going to suggest the 32gb if you can afford it, but I deleted that part. If I could have afforded it, I would have bought the 32gb.

I had the 16gb version of the 2012 HD, and it was fine for what I do. But the new OS takes up more space, and I fortunately decided to go for 32gbs on my HDX. I've used more space, in the month or so I've had the HDX, than would have been available to me on a 16gb HDX. If you can afford it, I'd recommend going for the 32gb, I know my needs are pretty modest.

Your DIL has a very nice MIL!

I was originally planing on getting the 64GB HDX. When push came to shove, I ordered the 32GB one, and spent the difference on Christmas gifts for other people.

Of course it differs from person to person, but I'd be surprised if you regret your decision, Erin. I admit I'm sparse, when it comes to using up space on my Fires, but I'm totally happy with 32 GB. And you are making the people in your life happy.

Thanks. I think I did the right thing. It accomplished something nice for some others besides myself, and cost me no more, since I was going to spend the money anyway. By the time I fill the 32GB HDX up, and need more space, Amazon will be offering something newer, and bigger, and I can get that if need be.
