"Any suggestions?"

Well, since you can watch Youtube, obviously you can watch videos, so you might need to be a bit more specific.
And I'm unsure how reading books equates to being able to watch videos...
If you like Apple products so much, it sounds like you should go use your Apple devices then since they "just work"...
As above, you did call customer service, right? That is the first place people usually go when they have a problem with a device....

Did you download the latest security patch for your iThings? Because there was a breach of security, and you need the patch.

At any rate, I've had my Amazon instant video on my iPad not work as well. It will say "Error occurred, please try again later." I find if I kill the app, and restart it will usually play. Sometimes, I just have to go back and try later.

And I agree with the others, if you don't want to try again later, then call Customer Service. You bought the thing, even though you had iStuff, so you must have wanted the Fire.

I had the same problem on my Fire. When talking to Amazon, we discovered the date on my Fire was messed up. I changed the date and was able to access my videos again. No idea how the date changed but I haven't had any problem since then.
