Is anyone else waiting to buy the 8.9 HDX until it goes on sale? I'm disappointed when I see emails indicating sales but they are limited to the 7". I'm going to sell my 8.9 HD as on ebay as soon as I order the 8.9 HDX

Same here. I was ready to pull the trigger this morning and was surprised to see that the 8.9 version was excluded from the sale. The 7" is just too small for what I want to use it for, and if forced to pay full price I'm inclined to pay a bit more and go with a Nexus.

? I'm missing the logic here..."If they don't put the cheaper HDX on sale, rather than pay full price for it, I will go pay more for a Nexus, also at full price." That doesn't quite will punish yourself and pay more because a company doesn't put the tablet you want on sale for you by purchasing another tablet from another company at a higher the first company regret not helping you?

No, that's not where I was going. While I like and would probably use the outstanding Amazon oriented media features from time to time, for me the main attraction would be the high end hardware - the Snapdragon processor and great screen, primarily - that is incorporated into it. The proprietary software and the corresponding necessity to side load much of what I would need to put onto this tablet to make it work for my needs (and the attendant risk of installing something nasty) weighs against the HDX and in favor of the Nexus. So for me it's strictly a question of whether the great hardware and price are sufficiently attractive to overcome the software limitations.

L. Hill says: has nothing to do with price! Mach - if you exercise care (as you should with ANY app installed - Google Play posts some scary apps with really wild permissions), sideloading is not an issue. There are several known sites for sideloading apps - stick with them. And - if the software is that proprietary - you should be able to go directly to the origin and get their base file. I do not find myself "software limited" on the Fire - and I use mine extensively in work. The only program I wish it had is MS Office - but as that doesn't exist for Android period, problem. I have sideloaded a number of apps - and am very careful as to where I source that app...trying to go directly to the originating author, when at all possible. In several instances, a quick email to the originator resulted in an email with the app attached...bonus. What proprietary software are you using - and can you get the source files from the origin?
