raffy - Sounds like you need to reboot it.

Since you do not specify which Kindle you have, here are instructions for all models:

For the Fire:
Make sure it's fully charged. Unplug the Fire.
Hold the power button in for 30 seconds (count them).
It should then reboot. The "kindle fire" screen will
appear for a couple of minutes while it's coming back on.

For e-ink Kindles:
For 2nd, 3rd and 4th Generation, Touch and DX Kindles:
Make sure it's fully charged. Unplug the Kindle.
Slide the power switch over (or press the power button) for 30 seconds (count them).
PUT IT DOWN AND DON'T TOUCH IT. It may take a few minutes to reboot.
Then turn on wireless and your books and Collections will repopulate.

For 1st Generation Kindles:
Leave it plugged in. Slide the cover off the back, and insert a paper clip or similar tool into the reset hole on the back.

Thank you so much Pineapple!

I was crying like a baby because my 4th gen Kindle wasn't turning on. You make my day... week and month.

My kindle fire HD 8.9 won't turn on, I have even plugged into compter the only thing that happens is a quick view of a battery with red line at top and a lightning bolt. The picture does not stay on the screen more than a few seconds. Just got this in March and it has been working fine till now. I almost always charge it via my compter. I have tried the 30 sec reboot - not working. Any ideas what has gone wrong or what the icon means? Not charged? overcharged? Killed battery? Help Thanks Carole

I'm pretty sure it doesn't have enough charge yet to turn on. If you have an A/C adapter, it will charge much much faster from a wall outlet than from the computer. Once it's got 50% or more charge, unplug it before you do the reboot. In the future, don't let it get so drained.

I have a Kindle fire HD. I tried the 30 sec hold on the power button and it still won't turn on. Any ideas next? I tried plugging into the wall but that didn't work either and it was blow on battery either. Help please.

It seems as if the battery life on my Kindle Fire is much less than on my original Kindle. I primarily use it for games and surfing the net....occasionally listen to music. Am I doing something wrong, or is this just the way KF's function?? Thanks.

Slide and hold the power switch for 20 seconds. Release it and then don't touch it until the progress bar fills.
