It all depends upon what you are doing. A video will use more battery power than reading a book, for instance. Most people say the life is in hours instead of weeks for the eInks.

The product page says from 8.5 to 11 hrs for the 7 inch. The 8.9 is probably less.

With just about 2 weeks to shipping on the 8.9 Fire HD I wonder why Amazon is not releasing the battery life figures. Getting kind of late isn't it? I ordered one but battery life is an important factor to me.

Update: I just found a post that said that the battery life is 8 hours 32 minutes and 12 seconds. Kind of disappointing. Same as the regular non-HD Fire, but 2.5 hours less than the Fire HD 7 inch.

With wi-fi turned off I manage to get about 6 hours of battery life just reading.. that's awful... I'm very disappointed.. think if I'd know that I would have purchased something else..not so good when traveling and can't access power source.

Then you should have bought an eink Kindle instead of whatever it is you bought.
