On Best Buy you can purchase the Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 7" for $179.00. On Amazon with Amazon Prime account you have to pay $229.00 for the same thing. Why is there such a price difference and why would one purchase an item on Amazon.com when you can get it at Best Buy for $50.00 less. And why is it less on Best Buy???

CBRetriever says:
because Best Buy has a lot of them in inventory they want to dump? Or they're loss leaders and they're hoping you'll buy more than just that (probably the extended warranty which might make up for the price difference)

it does say:

Sale: $179.99
Reg. Price: $229.99
You Save: $50.00

so the regular prices are the same - the only problem I could envision is that you might have to deal with Best Buy initially for the warranty

Amazon cannot legally dictate what any other retailer decides to sell their product for. If Best Buy wants to sell it for $179, that is the choice of Best Buy.

Whether you have Prime Account or not does not make any difference in the price Amazon will charge for any item. It only affects shipping.

It is up to you, the buyer to be aware of the policies (return, etc) and decide where to purchase.

For what it's worth, Amazon has run a number of sales on the Fires - some at $50 off. Because it is a SALE, the price will fluctuate to the non-sale price.

Retail stores can run sales and take a loss on any item they want to get you into the store in hopes you will buy other items while you are there.

Kindles are like any other item, prices will vary between the retailers.
