So the touch does not even see the network? Is your SSID from your router broadcasting? You may have to turn that on for the Kindle to see it to begin with.

Have you tried powering the router off and back on? And then trying to connect?

Some people say that works. I don't know why because my Kindle didn't have a problem with my Linksys router. But others think that can help.

I had a similar problem with mine and found that I had transposed two of the numbers in my router's password. Try running down to Starbucks or McDonalds or somewhere where they have free wifi and see if it connects there. If so then you might have some settings on your router that need to be changed. If not then there is something wrong with the kindle.

I have resolved the same issue with my new kindle touch. Go to menu->settings, then click the Menu again, click 'restart'. The issue has gone after it restarted. Hope this helps.

Just press the "Home" button. It's that odd looking four-strip thing below the screen that looks like a speaker.

I just received a Kindle (plain and simple) for Christmas. It is the small one, no frills. I have registered it and, with help, set it up, but every time I try to download a book, it says I have to connect to wi-fi. I don't understand what it's asking for. I tried plugging into my pc and then ejecting my Kindle, but that doesn't seem to work either. What am I doing wrong, or what haven't I done right? Help, please. :)

L.Coy: Your post is a few days old but I'll respond in case you're still watching.

wi-fi is for wireless connectivity. It allows amazon to update special offers and send books to your kindle without using the usb cable to connect to your PC. If you don't have a wireless router in your home and do not regularly find yourself somewhere with available wi-fi, you can still use your kindle by downloading books to your PC and dragging them to your kindle via the USB cable.

So, if you are trying to download a book directly from Amazon, look in the upper right corner and where it says "Deliver to <yourname> kindle", click the down arrow and choose "transfer via computer". This help page should be useful:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_left_sib?ie=UTF8&nodeId=200728710

You may also need to go to "manage your kindle" and cancel the pending wifi download since you don't have any wifi connectivity.

Oh my freaking god, I was about to throw this thing in the trash. THANK YOU for being the first person to say what the home button looked like! I thought I was going insane.

Followed Zaho's advice - and this worked for me:

So, one can sideload books from a pc and the Kindle touch will NOT seize up just because it cannot access ads via wifi? One reviewer said s/he couldn't read on an airplane because s/he could not get through the ads download (no wifi on airplane). Misunderstanding on the part of the reviewer or is this true information? Thanks.

This worked. Thanks. You're awesome.

Kindle touch cannot find any wireless network. The options to Join or Rescan are greyed out and not available. I purchased my kindle 2 weeks ago and downloaded 2 books successfully. I have tried from 2 different locations where I have successful PC wi-fi connectivity but nothing on the Kindle Touch.
I have reset the Kindle, updated to the most recent software, powered off and I still cannot connect.

I tried " menu-settings-menu-reset "on my Kindle Touch (3G and wifi verion) and it doesn't work. I know my wirless router is working because my other wireless items in my house are connected to wifi just fine right now. Reset, powered off, did everything mention, still does not work either. I have the 3G signal, but no wifi signal. It was working on wifi when I first got it. Does not work on wifi anymore. Disappointing!

Did you try resetting your wireless router?

Sometimes they get in a state where they can't accept any more connections.

Loriem says:
Thanks. Yes I just tried it. My Kindle still indicates "No wi-fi networks were found"
