I just had to reset my Kindle Touch to factory settings..no problem, except when I try to move my stuff to a collection now, instead of just being in the collection like before, it's now in the collection and on the home screen. Any idea how to make it not show up on the home screen, but still be in the collection? Thanks!

You need to make sure that it is sorted by Collections,

Are you sure you have the sort order on the Home screen set to be by Collection?

I just upgraded from a keyboard to a touch. I seem to recall that when a book was put in a collection, it was no longer on the home screen. This isn't the case with the Touch.

I get the idea of sorting by Collections, but isn't that just masking the situation?

No, that's how it's always been. Also remember that collections are just tags, not real folders.

Ah! thanks for the clarification!

Thanks so much for asking this question. I have been trying to figure out how to do this! I would put the books in a collection but they would still be on the home page. I would try and archive the one on the home page and it would archive them both. So frustrating.

actually, I bumped into someone with a kindle keyboard last night. The collections worked the way I remembered with mine: once you put a title into a collection, it comes off the main menu.

I guess the touch is different. Which is annoying. Manageable by sorting by collection. Annoying nonetheless.

I'm trying to organise the few books I have into collections, but the 'Create New Collection' option in the menu is greyed out. Is there a system setting somewhere I should be configuring?

Q says:
At the top of your Home page, "sort by Collections" to solve this issue.

Q says:
C Dwinell,
No, the Kindle Keyboard is the same. We have two of them. You must select "Sort by Collections" on them as well. That is nothing new.

Fred,
The "Create New Collection" is only usable on the main HOME page. Not inside a collection and not with magazines.

If you are on your main HOME page and that's grayed out, I'd restart the Kindle.

HOME > MENU > SETTING > MENU > RESTART

Thanks for the replies, Q.

I tried the restart but the 'Create New Collection' is still greyed out. Maybe a firmware issue?

Fred, have you connected via wi-fi yet? Mine was greyed out until I could got my first wifi connection, after that everything was fine.

Hi Darlene

No, I haven't made a wi-fi connection yet. Wi-fi is very bad in my area so I'll drag myself down to McDonalds and buy a cup of coffee to see what happens.

Thanks for the tip.

You're welcome. Wanted to add that connecting via wifi will complete your registration and allow you to do a few other things with settings like setting the clock. ;)

Q says:
Oh, I hadn't realized that you hadn't finished the registration yet! Yes, that is essential. Your Kindle must be recognized by Amazon and given an identitiy so that it can put DRM'ed books on it.

So you must lg on with the Kindle at least once in its life.

How do we make them realize how totally annoying this is. I have over 2000 books and I have only had my Kindle Touch since Christmas. When I add several books at a time I have to sort through the whole thing looking for each book unless I stop to write down the names, authors, etc of every book I download.

Would also, be simpler if we could download directly to our collections. Then I would not have to keep going back to the descriptions to see which category to put a book in. I have at times downloaded close to 100 books in a day.

There has to be a better way to do the organizing. Especially if the Kindle is shared with someone else in the family.

C. Dwinell says:
so, the situation fixes itself. As weird as this may seem. I move everything into a collection and it doesn't happen "on the spot." when I shut down and come back a day later, all's good. I'd say a upgrade to the software may be necessary.
