If you want Amazon to take note of your view you have to contact them direct. This is a public forum.

Swiping from right to left certainly works on my Paperwhite. Have you tried restarting your PW to see if that fixes your problem.

It wasn't a polite post but I can't remember the exact words and I've certainly seen worse.

for the kindle select 25, put your finger in the lower right now and drag it towards the upper right - that is how I scroll it and it just worked for me (I verified before posting).

ditto with the collections - you swipe from lower right to upper right and it moves to the next page on your kindle (also just verified)

CBRetriever says:
swipe/flick from bottom to top making sure not to start the swipe on a title or press too long

and it works just fine on my Kindle Touch, Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Fire HD

and the same holds true for your Home page

I did add it to the specific help forum. They deleted that also.
Swiping across the page has not worked for me. I've tried it several times. I also rebooted as suggested. Doesn't fix it.

In that case you need to contact Customer Services. It's still under warranty and if it's faulty Amazon will replace it.

not across the page, up - there is a difference

It's not that complicated. It's not like that whole left-to-right or right-to-left thing where you have to wonder whose left or right. The bottom is pretty much at, you know, the bottom and from there, there's pretty much nowhere to go but up.

Okay, now you try it.

And do you not understand that you are *not* reaching anyone who works for Amazon when you post here? If you post the same question 10 times, Amazon will still not see it or act on it, except perhaps to ban you from posting to the forums altogether. You need to contact Amazon directly, not complain in a forum for other customers. Otherwise, you will largely be ignored.

I swipe down and across with the edge of my thumb. It works very well. If you "hesitate" or allow your thumb to rest on the screen, it will select the book from that area of the screen. The swipe is a combined screen swipe down across, all at the same time.

It is a motion that can take some getting used to, especially if you've never used a touch screen before.

Yeah, okay. I rebooted again (3rd time). Now it's working.
Thanks to those who responded.

Am I missing something- I use the standard right to left page turning procedure and it works fine.

I didn't say right to left doesn't work, only that bottom to top does.

They asked about scrolling through the Top 25 list. Right to left page turning doesn't always work on lists in the Kindle store.

In some of the above messages, a certain tone of "let's simplifiy for the challanged person" can be detected.

It should be noted that when I found "across the page swipe" was not working (for several menus I've tried- not just "Top 25" - that was just my example), I went back and reviewed the User's Guide *before* I complained on the forum. I found only one reference to "swiping" (loc 75, 13%). It says nothing about adding a "vertical" component to the swipe. It only says swipe across the page. GO CHECK FOR YOURSELF.

For those among you who say that "horizontal swipe" works for you... great - MPTY.

Now, just for grins, suppose that it didn't...
So now you find yourself with an important function of this device (that you just sank $120 into) that appears not to work, AND, the User Guide claims that the thing you are doing (that doesn't work), is the thing you are *supposed to do*.

Perhaps it is the case that changing-up a vertical swipe for a horizontal one might be a part of that great cosmic body of knowlege that under-thirty year olds are supposed to have that those crowding sixty would not.
In any event, I saw no reason to do that. And so, to me, the machine just looked like a blatant lemon.

At this point, I have found that the vertical swipe works for every menu I have yet tried. (And the horizontal swipe still does not.)
And so my problem is solved.

Nevertheless, it may be that case that this particular tidbit of information should be added to the User Guide so that others of us with the "age challanged" condition know what to do.

I too find the help and user guides sadly lacking and back when there was a Kindle Forum pros forum we used to report things there and I think that got a bit more of response.

I really dislike it when people use their age as excuses...true I might be young - but I know many people in their 50's, 60's and 70's who are as technologically adept as the younger generation (believe it or not)...and many of them are on this forum

another hint - its all about the tone of the post...if you had simply written, I'm having issues with this, I have tried x, y, and z to fix it. Can any help - you might have gotten a different tone in your responses - but you took an antagonistic approach of Amazon must be out to screw me - which is going to taint people's responses to you

You can also click on Help at the top of the page and then click "Contact Us" to talk to someone in customer service. Choose the "call me now" option and your phone will ring. Someone will help determine if your Kindle is a lemon.

ETA: I'm not the least bit under 30 and it's not that difficult to try different things to get something to work. I do the same with non-computer devices also.

What did Customer Service say when you called them?

C. O. Perry says:
I guess I just have an extra good kindle. I can't find anywhere the right to left swipe won't work. In any case, I think the question shouldn't be "why didn't they explain the bottom to top swipe in the manual?", the question should be "why doesn't the right to left swipe always work?" That's the intuitive way to do it. Did you ever hear of someone wetting their finger and swiping from bottom to top to turn the page in a dead tree book?
