My kindle 2 3G, completely quit working after 14 months - tried everything. Finally just bought Kindle Fire. How do I transfer all of the books I purchased from Kindle 2 to the Fire? Thanks for any help.

Just register the new one to the same account as the books are on. All the books from Amazon will then be in the cloud (archived items list). You can download them from there.

You can't use the files that are on the old Kindle.

My wife bought books on my account for her Kindle. Now she has an iPad with a Kindle app. And her own Amazon account. How do I transfer her books out of my account/Kindle app, into her account/kindle app?

Jazzy_Jeff says:
You cannot transfer books between accounts. Only the devices or apps registered to the same account can share the content.

You can't. She can register her iPad app to your account and she'll have access to all her books, though.

what do you mean by 'You can't use the files that are on the old Kindle'? That does not include the books, right?

If I register the new Kindle on Amazon.com where on my Kindle would I go to download the books?

You can send your books to your kindle through the Manage Your Kindle page. Each book is on a line and at the right is a dropdown menu offering you options registered to that account (such as kindle4PC, etc)as to where to send the book

Laura, when you download files to a Kindle, those files can only be used on that Kindle. Once you register a new device to the same account, you can download the books to the new one just as you did the first one, and the files will be coded for the new device. You just can't copy the files directly from the old to the new.

Once the new device is registered to the account, you can download the files from the Manage Your Kindle page here, or you can do it from the new device itself. On the Home page you'll see the Archives. Choose that, and you will see a list of all the books on the Amazon account. Turn on the wireless connection and click on the book(s) you want on the new device; they'll download to it.

Once you register the new Kindle to the same account, all the content purchased for the account will be in the archives. And one of the first documents to download will be one called "Transfering your Kindle content" or something similar.

You can also transfer books using your Manage Your Kindle page: http://www.amazon.com/manageyourkindle

My Kindle 2's screen got damaged, so I bought a Kindle 3 Keyboard. I have over 800 books on the old one. Is there no way to get them onto the new Kindle other than going through each and every one of the 800 books and redownloading? That's an awful lot of work. Why doesn't Amazon have a "transfer all to new device" button?

Do you see all the books under the cloud tab? You can click the titles to download.

I have a kindle with keyboard and lots of books on it. Recently purchased the kindle e-ink without the keyboard and from what I have been reading on this discussion board I think I understand what I need to do to transfer my books from my old Kindle to my new one. I just want to make sure I do this right. My questions are: do I register my new kindle under my current account and then transfer the books to my new Kindle under that same account which amazon named when I purchased the old one? Do I then de-register my old Kindle? I wasn't sure if my books would transfer correctly if I didn't de-register the old one. And, what if I choose to give my old one to a friend? Would they have to register the old one in their name and would they have access to my archive?
Thanks very much for any info that would help me make sure I get this right!

Have you tried to send the books to your Kindle using your Manage Your Kindle page? http://www.amazon.com/myk

You may need to log in. Are the books there?

>>>do I register my new kindle under my current account and then transfer the books to my new Kindle under that same account which amazon named when I purchased the old one?

Yes. If you bought your new Kindle from Amazon, it should come already registered to your account, named something like Bookkat's 2nd Kindle. If it's not already registered, just register it with the email address and pw for the account. You can change the device's name on the MYK page. http://www.amazon.com/myk

>>> Do I then de-register my old Kindle? I wasn't sure if my books would transfer correctly if I didn't de-register the old one.

You can deregister the old one, but you don't have to. I have several Kindles and apps registered to my account. No problems at all. Most books can be on 6 devices at the same time, but that's the only issue with have several Kindles on an account.

>>>And, what if I choose to give my old one to a friend? Would they have to register the old one in their name and would they have access to my archive?

If your friend registers the Kindle to his/her own account, he/she will not have access to your archive. If you want to share an account, just leave the device registered to your account (you can rename the device) and Friend will have access to your archives. Keep in mind that any purchases Friend makes will be owned by your account. Content cannot be transferred from one account to another.

Cassie: Thank you so much for your help....especially the way you broke down each of my questions and answered them one by one! I hadn't yet tried to transfer the books as I wasn't sure which step to take first but you have definitely cleared that up and made this very easy to follow. I'm hoping to start on this in the next few days but just need to finish a few last minute Christmas shopping, then I can get this done and I"m excited to try my new Kindle.
Again, thank you for explaining the procedure to me...I really do appreciate it! Have a wonderful holiday!

How do I transfer my photos from one kindle fire to another?

In reply to an earlier post on Feb 13, 2013 10:33:38 AM PST
Plug Fire1 into your PC with the usb cable.
Copy the photos from Fire1 to your PC.
Plug Fire2 into your PC with the usb cable.
Copy the photos from your PC to Fire2.

OR

Instead of using your PC and the usb cable you can use your Cloud Drive.

I broke my kindle and have replaced it with a new paperwhite 3g kindle. How do I transfer my books from the broken kindle to my new paperwhite kindle.

Register the PW to the same Amazon account you used to buy your books. Be sure wi-fi is still turned on, and do a sync. The titles of the books will appear under the cloud tab. Tap a title and it will download. Repeat as desired.
