Won't boot, won't charge. Only a few days old; not abused and hardly used. Ideas?

If the 20-second reboot (hold the power button down for 20 seconds and then wait) does not work, then contact Amazon Kindle CS. Use the Help link at the top right of this page.

My kindle fire just died. It was working well. I turned it off for half hour and then when I tried to turn on, no light, nothing

Hold the power button in for 20 seconds to see if it reboots.

Make sure to charge it fully.

I tried pressing on for 20 seconds several times. Nothing. Then connected Kindle to my pc and after ten minutes it suddenly turned on. Seems to be working now.

Wonderful.
Make sure you charge it until the light turns green.

Most electronics in today's marketplace have at least some components made in China.

Mine died, too, but thankfully, I was able to reboot it after about 100 tries. I'm wary of it now...

This happened to my Fire also. It turned out to be because the wifi signal was weak and kept cutting out. The Fire apparently shut off instead of draining the battery in search of a consistent signal. After I moved it to another room, with a stronger signal, the power button lighted up and the Fire started immediatley when depressed. Now I disconnect the wifi when not using the web. This is what I always did with my previous Kindle to save the battery so it makes sense. I found the hint about the wifi somewhere in the tangle of help on Amazon.

Mine died too after working great. The 20 seconds worked the 2nd time I tried it. Left it plugged in for an hour after I thought it had died, but no light while plugged in, so I thought it was toast. It needs to display a light if it is alive!

I had the same issue. It took 3 times of holding the power button for 20 seconds. Now it works. Scary.

Mine had the same problem today, only a few days after I got it. I'm very concerned to have this issue already. One more time and I'm sending it back. Not good

P. Mumme says:
I was ready to send my Fire back due to several issues, but my husband talked me into trying it a little longer. Last night it died after a full charge and only 2 hours use. If I have to return something because it quit working, I'm not getting a replacement. Maybe after the bugs are figured out, I'll try another tablet. I should have known better than to buy a first generation device.

Same issue. It died for no apparent. Did the 20 second reboot and it worked after the second time. Kinda scary.

Mine did the same thing. Using it for awhile, turned it off, then later tried to turn on again. Called CS and said to do a hard boot for 20 seconds. After this happened it has been working just fine.. It does make you think. Will this happen again. Hope not really like it.

Thanks for adding your comments here everyone! My Fire died last night and it really made me sad, as I have fallen in love with it!
Held the button down for 20 seconds this morning and it's now happily charging away! So sad that it's sick so soon, though!

I've yet to find an electronic device that doesn't occasionally need a hard reset.
