Why has my Kindle Fire HD 8.9 started displaying "No SIM" and an x beside the WiFi symbol at the top right of the screen? Have had my Kindle for months and this has never appeared before. I paid extra for increased memory when I bought it.

Try rebooting your router by unplugging it, waiting a few minutes, then plugging it back in. Try to connect to wireless. If it doesn't work, contact Kindle CS via, then click on the yellow Contact Us button on the right side of the page.

I have had the no SIM signal for months. I have no problem connecting to WiFi except I can no longer connect to the Amazon A T and T service that I purchased last year. It was only $50 dollars for a year and I use it occasionally when I get out of range for other services. But not now since getting the no SIM signal.

**Meya** says:
Ward, that $50 plan was only for 12 months. Now that the time period is over, you'll need to purchase a data plan from AT&T if you want to continue to use 3/4G for a connection.

The message, I assume, has to do with that fact, there is not longer a data plan linked to the device. You'll need a WiFi signal for your connection.
