K. Rowley says:
Looking at my wishlist for Kindle books, I notice the listings all show a used book listing at the bottom. The prices are all identical to the price of the new book... Are we going to be able to sell back books now?

A example of what I'm seeing....
Impulse (Jumper)
by Steven Gould (Kindle Edition)
$9.99
Auto-delivered wirelessly. Offered by Macmillan.
2 Used & New from $9.99

Are you seeing the old wishlist format or the new one it recently changed to?

That could be the links to DTBs you're seeing. Used books start at whatever price the sellers choose, which may or may not be the same or more than the kindle edition or the brand new DTB.

K. Rowley says:
The "2 Used & New" words are a link, and it takes you to the Kindle edition page... And they all say "2 Used & New", but I noticed its just the books by the major publishers. The ones from Amazon Digital Service don't have the text.

Nope. The Used books are paper books. You cannot sell Kindle books.

You're probably right - it could just be an coding error with the new page layout..

In reply to an earlier post on Oct 17, 2013 6:20:59 PM PDT
It doesn't matter what page it takes you to. If you then click on the "2 Used and New" link *there*, what comes up? I'll bet it's DTBs.

No, actually it's the product page for the Kindle edition..

And a number of the books I have on my wishlist are Kindle Singles - which don't have a DTB edition... Yet they have the 2 Used & New link too.

I realise that what comes up when you click on the link on your wishlist is the product page for the kindle edition. What I'm asking is - on that kindle edition page, does a similar "used and new" link show there? If so, have you clicked on it, and what comes up?

Incidentally, when I click on the "used and new" link on a wishlist item it goes to a list/table of options, with tabs for "all", "new", "used" and "collectible". If yours isn't doing that (and if all the links say "2", rather than giving variable numbers), then I suggest you might actually have some kind of browser glitch.

I doubt it's a browser glitch, given its showing up across different platforms - webOS, android, and Windows... But the Wishlist page has been redesigned (or at least the pages I'm seeing have been), so it might just be a coding error. Or it could be some sort of placeholder for some future function.

Given that others aren't seeing the same thing, though, that would suggest it's not at Amazon's end. Why would you think that you'd be seeing something different to everyone else if it's something that originates at the website end? It's not as if Amazon would be changing *your* account's view but not others'; that's just not the way websites are designed.

Amazon shows different versions of pages / features to different people. Just visit the Gold Box forum and read any of the threads on the new Gold Box page layout. I and others have been seeing versions of the new layout for a couple months now. Same with the new profile page - I can see both, the current (old) and the new - and there is a link that lets you toggle back and forth. I started seeing this nee wishlist page layout about a week ago.

Same thing happened with the Amazon Betterizer, I mentioned it here on the forums when I first noticed it. And it seemed no one else could see it. Then a few days/weeks later everybody was able to see it. I noticed it (the betterizer) has disappeared sometime this past week or so.

Anyway, no big deal - give it a week or so and more peoples' Wishlist will change.

In today's world of distributed servers running websites, it actually is how it works. Sort of. When a company is rolling out a new website they will slowly roll it out one or two servers at a time. This results in different people ending up getting different versions of the same website. The same person could even get different versions on different computers and/or browsers. This is done in order to prevent a bug that only shows up once large numbers of users are hitting the code from bringing the entire site down. If a bug is found it allows the site to stay live and to roll back the change for a fix with little to no affect on the site.

true - those outside the US do not see prices on their wishlists using a PC and the ones on the Fires reflect US prices (hence all the "the price changed" complaints

Whatever. You haven't answered my questions, so it's not like you're giving out any helpful information.

By the way, I said on these forums months ago that since Amazon had lodged a patent for a method of reselling "used" ebooks, there seemed to be a reasonable chance that option would be available at some point. I just don't think you've given enough detail to figure out whether that's what this is.

Just look at the Kindle Edition row in the Formats table. If the "Used from" column has nothing but "--" then there are no used Kindle editions.

I see the link you mention in my wish list as well. If the book is sold by Amazon Digital Services, Inc or Hachette it does not have the link. If it's from HarperCollins, Macmillan, Penguin, or Random House it does. Since its only some pubs and the product page has no used versions listed (for Kindle) it feels like a glitch. Though, the "glitch" could be something they are working on for later. Back in Feb a blogger found out that Amazon had filed a patent for used Kindle books sales that uses a modified version of the lending system. (Patent 8,364,595 "Secondary market for digital objects" granted on January 29, 2013) Right now though, all the link does is give you the regular Kindle Price and send you to the normal Kindle page. This wouldn't be the first time a "glitch" occurred where a future feature showed up up for a few people. The link showing how many new posts in a thread since you last viewed it popped up for a few people like this before it went a way for a month of so and then rolled out to all.

Keep in mind I'm a customer like you.. All I'm doing is/was mentioning something I noticed on the new Wishlist page. Does it really mean anything? Who knows. I just thought it was interesting, and might be interesting to a few other people.

I never said there was any.. Just pointing out what looks like the infrastructure for them being added to the new Wishlist page layout..

Okay..... Given what I've mentioned here is the extent of what I know from what I've observe... What questions do you have?
