Only if you have the Kindle Fire HD.

Theresa W. says:

Bufo Calvin says:
Theresa, yes, you need a TV with an HDMI in, and an HDMI cable. I use this one:

Mediabridge Micro-HDMI to HDMI Cable with Ethernet - (6 Feet) - FLEX Series High Speed

but it shouldn't make much difference as long as it is micro on one end and standard on the other.

I'm not connected with that product except as a user.

if you have a large TV with the HDMI port in the back, consider a ten foot cord.

I know this thread is a tad outdated, but I might have occasion to need to hook up the Fire 8.9 to a tv this weekend. I have a cable that appears to have a micro-usb on one end, and a regular usb on the other. It's very short, like camera length; not even sure where I got it.

Assuming it *is* the correct connection, is there anything else I need to do, to get it to play on the tv screen? I'm wanting to throw DroidTV onto the larger screen w/sound. Or do I just hook it up and tap Play?

If the cable is USB, it is not the correct type of cable. The one Bufo linked to is the correct type.

You will need to change the input on your television, so that it is pulling its picture from the HDMI port that you are using. There is an INPUT button on your remote. It may say HDMI.

Ah. Well. It was just a thought. Thanks! :0)

you need a micro usb for the kindle and a HDMI port for you TV. You can order one for your kindle from Amazon or Best Buy sells them for around $20.00. I use mine all the time.

Theresa, you do NOT use USB to connect a Fire HD to a television.

That's very wrong.

No, you need a micro HDMI (type D) connection for the Fire HD, with an HDMI connection for the TV. You can not export video from the Fire's USB port....

T. Cook says:
Technically, assuming the TV uses the Kindle as a Flash Drive when connected via USB, if you connect the Kindle to your TV via a USB cable, you should be able to play stored media (movies/music) on your TV, but not streaming media.

Soulrider says:
You need HDMI on BOTH ends to connect the Kindle Fire HD to a TV, NOT USB. It should be MICRO HDMI on one end and regular HDMI on the other end. I would highly recommend for cable purchases. If you don't mind waiting a few days for mail order you can get decent cables usually MUCH cheaper than you can at local box stores (depending on the cable). For a cable that you would probably pay $20 for at a local big box store you can get for a few dollars with extremely cheap shipping. The last cable I ordered I think was 10 feet and it came to $3.xx INCLUDING shipping. I'm not affiliated with monoprice but use them exclusively for any cables I need. I've never had a quality issue with any of the cables I've purchased from them either (which can be a concern with cheaper cables). Just another option for people to consider.

There is no way to access the necessary software to do that.

thanks Maya, I said it wrong, I am truthfully not up to date on all the tech talk. (Not Tech savy). Thank you for pointing that out to me, I thought that's what it was called. But I do know you can get the part at Best Buy.
