There are many generations/versions of kindles so-

go to: http://amazon.com/myk

then go to: Manage your devices and make a note of which device you have

then come back here and let us know which device it is. Once we know which device it is, someone may be able to provide you with assistance or you can also click on help at the top of this screen and contact customer service.

Mary, try rebooting: Unplug your Kindle from its charger. Hold the Power button on for a full 30 seconds (count 'em -- it matters). Let it reboot fully. It may take a couple of minutes.

If this doesn't fix it, contact Customer Service -----> Click on the big yellow Contact Us button on the right of the forum page. If your browser isn't showing you the Contact Us button, try another browser or use one of the Help links that are at the top and bottom of every Amazon page.

You will be asked some questions online to get to the actual Help contact area. Don't be concerned if your question isn't shown exactly. I've found it doesn't really matter what answers you give. Just pick something close (or not close) and you will be fine.

Your best bet is to use the Call Me feature. They call almost instantly and your account info is already brought up on their screen. Chat is also good. Email contact seems to be the least satisfactory because they can't troubleshoot with you in real time and because oftentimes you will receive a canned answer; so one-on-one contact solves problems more quickly, easily, and effectively.

Joan Behunin says:
The top half of my kindle works, but the bottom half has a few words from a previous book on it with a triangle white slash and a couple of vertical white slashes through it. I have tried the 20 second restart and the 30 second restart, but neither have fixed the bottom half of the kindle. Help!

Mike says:
You don't say which Kindle that you're talking about, Joan. But, if it is an eink Kindle, it sounds like a torqued or pressured screen, and it's probably toast. Contact Kindle customer service starting with the help link at the top of the page, and then the orange contact us button. Have them call you... don't use email.
