I am having a problem where I can only type a single letter in any forms on any website in silk. I have tried rebooting the Kindle and I still can't type. Has anyone experienced this?

Yes having exact same problem, can only type one letter, then the second letter erases the first. Just got this kindle yesterday as a gift and so not happy so far!

I am seeing a lot of people reporting this in the Kindle Help Forum. It looks to have started today. I am on the phone with support. Unfortunately, the only thing that I have seen people state that worked was to reset the entire Kindle back to factory defaults. That may work for anyone who just got it, but I don't want to lose any of my data. Another thing I have seen is that some people have had success with other browsers, but I am not happy with that either. Hopefully they will figure something out.

I have just contacted support about this and it is being escalated to the developers as many people starting experiencing this at about 4 PM PST today. There are numerous threads about this. This seems like a software issue that they will have to fix.

Typing problem on my Fire 8.9 HD just started tonight. It's like the insert key on regular keyboard had been hit so that one letter just replaces the last one typed. My old Fire is still working so I could get this message on.

Amazon please fix this typing problem ASAP.

Same started here just a few minutes ago after I had to reboot it. I certainly won't do a factory reset just because their programmers can't keep from messing up their own products with software changes/updates! One note: I can type single letters separated by spaces, as well as numbers and symbols. I can type multiple symbols and numbers, too.

I have the same problem and found that you must keep hiting screen after each entry and you can get a sequence in although it is very cumbersum and slow to do. needs to be fixed asap!

I have the same problem, which started the evening of 1-15-13. I reported the problem to an Amazon chat representative 1-16-13 at 8:30am CST, and she was going to escalate the issue to developers. I shared a link to this page with her, along with some other forums showing that other users are having the same problem today. They will email me when they have a solution/response from the developers.

Hello everyone.
Some Kindle Fire 2nd Generation, Kindle Fire HD 7", and Kindle Fire HD 8.9" may have received an in-app update for the Silk browser today. This update may cause issues with the on-screen keyboard when used in the browser. Performing a factory reset will correct the issue.

However, if you can afford some time, you can plug in your device, select the Sync option, and put the device to sleep. The full update should complete within 24 hours, and should resolve any current keyboard problems you might be experiencing in the browser. This is the preferred process, as it's far less intrusive if you're willing to wait.

from an amazon mod:

Our development team is aware of the issue and has given us a fix. Here are the full steps:

1. Plug in the device to charge
2. Connect to Wi-Fi, and select "Sync" from the Quick Settings Menu
3. Put the device to sleep.

An update for Silk should complete within 24 hours, and should resolve any current keyboard problems the customer is experiencing in the browser. Since this is less intrusive, these are the preferred steps.

A factory reset will also fix the issue, if the customer doesn't want to wait. As a side note, clearing the app data for the browser won't help.
