Kindle Fire keyboard for Spanish accents - help!

The accent for à and ñ work. However, the top row vowels of e, u, i and o have tiny #'s on right and those #'s always dominate when I try to use any of the foreign accents displayed as I hold, press top row keys. Also only the # is highlighted in orange with a "press / hold" - it therefore looks impossible to use the top row vowel accent feature. Can anyone help me unlock how to get Spanish accents on that top row of keyboard Kindle Fire? I think they need to be highlighted orange on a "press"...

I don't know. Finally discovered one simply holds down letter or puntuation then moves cursor to wanted language accent. Very easy. Hold o and move finger to Sanish option --- ó. Or ¡ for punctuation. Try it and you will see language optiions lined up in orange row.

you may be talking about a later version of Kindle Fire than the frist two posters have - the current Kindle Fires have the ability to have a Spanish keyboard

You hold the letter you want to have an accent.
If you see it drag your finger across to it and let go.
Hope this helps

As a point of interest, for what it's worth, I live in Costa Rica most of the year. Increasingly here, people don't bother to use the accents in normal correspondence or informal writing such as Facebook posts, etc.

Most people have laptops and computers with standard keyboards, not Spanish keyboards, and have found it to be too much trouble to bother with typing the special characters so they've stopped using them.

I'm using an app to learn Spanish, so it's important that I learn the correct spellings, so I need to be able to use the accent marks and glides.

all current models and 2013 models have the ability to set the keyboard language to Spanish, so that won't be a problem
