All apps say unknown error!

Try connecting to wifi and then sync. If that doesn't help, then hard reset - ensure Fire is charged.
Disconnect charging cable.
Press and hold power button for 30 seconds (time it).
Press the power button one more time.
Don't try anything until the home screen fully loads. It may take a few minutes.

Wow! Had the same problem too and changing the date seem to fix it.

This worked for me. Somehow my date was changed to years ago. Setting the date correctly solved this problem for me.
