i charge my fire hdx 8.9 every day because i spend about 7-9 hours reading. i would like to get an ext. battery charger because we frequently have blackouts and if my kindle was low charge i could recharge waiting for power to come back.
about how much in battery time or % would a 10,000 mah charge . would you advise spending more $ to more mah?

Type in "USB battery" in the search box above.

T. Cook says:
Wikipedia: The ampere-hour is frequently used in measurements of electrochemical systems such as electroplating and electrical batteries. An ampere-hour is not a unit of energy. In a battery system, for example, accurate calculation of the energy delivered requires integration of the power delivered (product of instantaneous voltage and instantaneous current) over the discharge interval. Generally, the battery voltage varies during discharge; an average value or nominal value may be used to approximate the integration of power.

Usually devices with a rechargeable battery have a limiter so they don't charge too fast (aka heat up beyond tolerance), so I can't say if the 10,000 mah would charge 10 times faster than the 1000 mah charger usual for such devices, but, theoretically, a 10000 mah charger should re-charge your kindle multiple times before the charger's battery needed to be recharged. You'd have to read the specs of your battery to see what it suggests it can charge.

Charging time is also a function of the USB port.
