The servers are probably overloaded, support is saying to try again in a few hours.

When you registered the Kindle, you entered all of your Amazon account information including your e-mail address that is tied to your Amazon account, right?

when you go to manage your device, does it show a Kindle email address? We have 3 new Kindle Fires and 2 show the email address' and one doesn't... so that one can't get things downloaded to it. I just saw another post and they said customer service is aware of the problem

I'm having the same problem and have it registered to my account!

Kayla, I am sure Amazon is overwhelmed with all of the new devices being registered. I would wait a couple of hours and let it clear out.

My new kindle is registered, and also when I go online to manage my kindle, it shows up as being registered. I am signed into my amazon account, but cannot make a single purchase. I click on Buy, and it says: "In order to purchase from the Kindle Store, you must first register your kindle to your amazon.com user account. would you like to register now?" I click on yes, my account is signed in, I click use this account and I go back to the buy screen to start this cycle all over. I have linked it to another amazon account, I have rebooted the kindle. Unregistered and re-registered it. I don't know what to do! New Christmas present....

Mine's doing the same thing, it could be with the way Amazon registered it. For some reason Amazon registered mine as an Android MP3 player (I didn't), so now I can't download any books. I simply followed the instrutions on the screen that said to register my Kindle with my Amazon email and password, so that's what I did. Then my name appeared on my Kindle, with Android MP3 Player. The instructions say that you can deregister a Kindle to register, NOT, because then it says it's unable to do that. This this is making me nuts!

We're having the same problem. Can't buy a book on our new kindle touch. Endless loop of frustration. Please advise.

I'm running into a similar problem. When I attempt to rent a movie it says that "there was an error and your order may not have been processed. Please try again." All of my account settings are accurate and 1 click purchasing is set up. I'm hoping Amazon is just overwhelmed with purchases being made?

You can send the book to the appropriate kindle by going to the Manage Your Kindle page and choosing the book. On the right hand side there is a drop down menu with options to send.

Amz servers are overloaded with registration requests. They are working on it. Try again in a couple hours.

Same issue here. And when I go to buy a book on my computer, my Kindle isn't in the drop down box. Says it's registered though both on my account and on the kindle itself.

Here's the deal -- somebody posted the solution to this problem (which I was also having with my new Kindle Touch). The problem is the "welcome letter"/Kindle user guide, which is preloaded. Apparently it's corrupted and it screws everything else up. You need to delete it. To do this, open it up, then bring up the menu at the top. One of the options on that menu will be delete. (At least I think this is how I did it!)

Try restarting the device. That was what worked for me.
Home> Menu> Settings> Menu> Restart.

Nospin-
Thank you, the book is now on my kindle.

Guys/gals, I just got a flurry of activity on my kindle and it appears on amazon.com as a deliverable location. It seems Amazon must just be overwhelmed.

It's the servers. Deleting the welcome letter or restarting are the kinds of things that are probably more coincidence than actual solutions.

No, actually, they have been known issues for weeks. The servers are in addition to the restart/welcome letter issues.

It's a perfect storm, just in time for Christmas morning. Hopefully everyone can get up and running without "Amazon ruining" anything.

Woo hoo - my 3G keyboard just started downloading the archived content, looks like maybe the overloaded servers are now working.

If you received the Kindle as a gift, be sure that you have actually registered the Kindle's serial number to your account. I was unable to buy anything on my device as well until I got on my computer and actually registered the serial number. You'll find the number if you go to settings and then "menu" and "device info." Happy Christmas, Everyone!
