My kindle fire suddenly stopped charging.

Have you tired another outlet and have you rebooted it?

Unplug the Fire.
Hold the power button in for 30 seconds (count them).
After the device has completely turned off, press the power button to restart your Fire.

Then plug it in.

Because it's a computerized device, and all computerized devices must be rebooted once in a while.

if reboot doesn't work you can try different usb cord, different charger, different socket, different combos (for example on one of my I have to plug device first then socket). otherwise contact customer service.
