Good evening, friends! Please join in the discussion of The Bluebird House, by Rae Ellen Lee.

A brief synopsis: 51 year old Molly decides to divorce her boring husband and buys a property in an old Montana mining town. On the property is a dilapidated brothel. Molly hires a local man to fix it up for her to live in. As it's being fixed, she learns more about its history and makes new friends.

Molly occasionally likes to stop in at the local tavern and have a beer, so beer all around for our group tonight!

N. Podaci says:
so how did you like this one? I'd say 4-1/2 stars.

Posted on Apr 12, 2012 5:09:12 PM PDT
Hey guys- I was thinking 4 1/2 stars as well. For me this all centers around some pretty gutsy decisions made by a lady after a major injury that changed the whole course of her life...

~nospin says:
A definite 4.5 stars for me too.

Yeah, I think most people would have just gone back to what they knew. But I guess she had a lot of time to think.

Did anyone post a link to us over at Shelfari yet? If not I'll fly over...

And she is gutsy. Went down the luge run in an inner tube!

I'm still laughing at that and her friend the moose head on the bar wall...

Went for my brief synopsis -
Fabulous story of a woman coming into her own after losing a battle with a moose. Molly changes her relationships, her hair, and her address and finds the Molly she used to be without fear of disappointing people or having to live up to their expectations.

Don't forget she helped solve a murder and a ghost to go to her rest too! :-)

I think she could step out of being Mommy Molly and try all sorts of things. I so envied her her bravery.

Anyone else jealous about the hunky handy guy who also happened to be a gourmet chef?

I did too and I also admired her creativity and her resourcefulness. Dealing with things like an outhouse at -20 and long drives in deep snow was pretty gutsy too! And to luck into a gourmet cook! How marvelous.

I sure hope some more folks drop by. This book got lots of votes.

I actually enjoyed reading this book very much. I have managed to read about 14 of the free books since I started feverishly collecting them, and this has been the best so far. I read it back in February so I may have forgotten, but I don't think there were many, if any, of the grammar, spelling, and formatting issues that we have found on the other freebies. I think it was beautifully written, and I love how she incorporated the "ghost" elements without crossing completely into the paranormal or fantasy camp. I'll grab some refreshments and come back with a couple of minor issues I had with the plot, or actually, more with Molly's behavior.

I actually want to make the mustard sauce recipe at the back of the book.

What was cool about the book is that the author pretty much lived that same life.

Nice to see you Kindlana. Looking forward to hearing more of your thoughts...

PS I am eating a grilled cheese stuffed pretzel lol.

Apologies, all, for being late! (project at work)

My rating is 3.5-4 *. It started out a bit slow for me, but definitely picked up in the last half. As I think about it, that could correspond with transitioning from her old life to the new? I thought it was well written & don't recall any obvious issues with spelling or grammar. I would read another novel by this author. Oh! and if said in the right tone of voice, it wouldn't be so bad to hear I had a nice [figure] for someonee my age. ;-)
