I pre-ordered a DX for my niece who goes to college in another city. I expect that she will be registering the Kindle under her Amazon account.

Can I buy ebooks for her under my account and send it to her Kindle? Would that require registering the Kindle under two accounts and can that be done?

You could send her gift cards !!!

But no, can't be registered under 2 accounts, and can't send a book to another Kindle.

Unfortunately you can't gift a book to someone on another account; so yes, gift cards are the best option! And they're so fun to receive!
Then you can just e-mail the names of books in which you feel she may be interested. Or you can e-mail her from the amazon book description page.

I was wondering the same thing. Is this still the case? Can't gift ebooks?

That is from almost FIVE years ago.
You can send ebooks as gift. When you are looking at the book product page you will see a button for "give as gift". You will need the person's email address.

Use the bright Give as a Gift button.

Look at the date on those posts. Things have changed since then. To give someone a Kindle book as a gift, go to the book's product description page. Under the button that says Buy with 1-Click, there is another one that says Buy as a gift. Click that and follow directions. Be sure to use the person's regular e-mail address. You can add a message; you can tell Amazon when to send it.

The recipient will get an e-mail from Amazon with your message and instructions on how to accept the gift.
