I"m having the same issue...have tried holding the power button for 15 secs nothing is working, been frozen since last night. :(

Seven to ten seconds will turn it off/on, as opposed to sleep/awake. Thirty seconds will reboot it. Wait for the progress bar to fill before you proceed.

my kindle froze and nothing would work. It was only 6 months old. Customer service was great and had a new one to me in only 2 days. My best friend had the same problem, and the same results from customer service. :0)

Mike says:
Why ever would you wait six months?! Of course, contact Kindle customer service. Start with the help link at the top of this page and then the orange contact us button on the next.

tigger: Which Kindle do you have? Here is a link to help you, if you don't know:

List of e-ink Kindles:
http://smile.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/?nodeId=201263790

List of Fires:
http://smile.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/?nodeId=201263780

It would help us to try to help you if you told us which model Kindle you have. But try one of the following (try it a few times if you need to, before giving up):

For an e-ink screen Kindle: Try a hard reboot - hold the power switch in the 'on' position for 30 seconds (count them slowly) and then wait until the Kindle reboots - that will take some minutes. Unplug it from any power source and don't touch any keys until it reboots.

For a Fire: Try performing a hard reset on your Kindle Fire. Unplug the Fire from all power sources and then press and hold the power button for 20 seconds (count them slowly) and then release. Ignore any shutdown messages. After the device has completely turned off, press the power button to restart your Kindle Fire.

For Fire HD2 and Fire HDX:
Make sure it has at least a 50% charge. Leave it plugged in.
Hold the power button for a full 20 seconds disregarding any 'Power Off' notices.
Stop pressing the power button.
The flickering "kindle fire" logo should appear and it will turn back on.

If that does not help, Use the large orange Contact Us button to the right to contact Amazon Kindle CS and talk with them about it - use the live chat or the call back feature if you can, not email. If you can't see a Contact Us button on this page, then go to https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/contact-us/kindle-help.html and contact CS. Use Live Chat or the Call Me Back feature and NOT email, as they will have your account details available to them immediately when you talk with them.

Jack Getz says:
Hold it on 30 seconds then let it reboot with the switch in normal position for about 10 more with the switch released.

Huh? Why did you dredge up a two year old thread to say this? It doesn't matter how much your Kindle cost. Amazon still backs it with their one-year warranty.

Click on this link and fill in the information:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/contact-us/kindle-help.html
You may have to sign in. I would use the PHONE or CHAT options.
Do *NOT* use e-Mail.
CALL ME under the PHONE tab is great if available.
They will call you within minutes.

Thanks Boo-Dittie! I just bought mine at a yard sale for $5 with a dead battery. 30 minutes on charger and 30 secs on the power button and it works. I love yard sales!
