Adobe no longer supports Flash on Android 4.0.x and above. Look through the older threads, there are ways of getting around the issue.

Shawn, Adobe has pulled all Flash support for Android devices. There are ways around it, but any device running current Android will not support Flash without you doing some stuff.

To install Flash: (You have to have a Flash compatible browser in order to install Flash. You can't install it under Silk.) Do the following on the Fire HD itself:
* Install ES File Explorer: ES File Explorer
* Install Dolpin. The most current version of Dolphin won't work. You need the 8.5.1 version. You get Dolphin here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1787595
* The file downloads. You'll get a Notification that it did.
* Launch ES File Explorer, and look in the Downloads folder. You'll see the Dolphin icon...tap it to install. You get Flash here:

I have done this on my Fire HD, and it works great. It took me perhaps 10 minutes total.

And only a certain percentage of YouTube vids are Flash, anyway. I was shocked that my iPad plays almost all of the YouTube videos I am ever directed to. Maybe 1 in 12 are Flash.

So then can you just use the regurlar Kindle Fire Web (Silk?) and it will run things that need adobe regurlary? Or can you use the ES File Explorer to use internet?
I did everything you said, then allowed my kindle to download, installed it, and now im on the web and the game i was trying to play (Evony) still says I need flash. Any Help?

Punkin' Lovin' Mooncat,

Excellent point. I'm not a YouTube addict but I use it fairly frequently and the TubeMate app available in the Amazon Appstore lets me access YouTube at least 90% of the time without using the Dolphin Browser.

Linda, you have to use Dolphin browser (as Meya clearly stated) in order to watch flash content.

I am using YouTube viewer from this bundle:

So far all clips I tried to watch worked.

Even Google Map location services work.

I just tried this. ES File Explorer is fine. But my Fire HD won't open the Dolphin file.
Any suggestions?

Marian - Did you update the settings on your Fire HD to allow installation of applications from other sources? If not, that's what's preventing it from being opened.

Really disappointed that the new Kindle doesn't have Flash. Very disappointed..

Keandra, all new Android devices will be lacking Flash. Adobe pulled support, it is not just Kindles.

In reply to an earlier post on Oct 14, 2012 4:29:19 PM PDT
Yes, I had already done that.
No go.

Marian - When you try to install Dolphin, what happens? Do you get an error message? People have gotten this to work, so my suggestion would be to delete the file and try downloading a fresh copy:

I had already tried re-downloading it also. Twice.
Now I just tried that one more time. Message says, "Cannot open file."
(I've got the Fire HD, by the way.)

Okay Marian - I have a different suggestion for you. Firefox for Android (another web browser) supports Flash. I would try downloading and installing it, and then see if you can get flash videos to play for you. Get Firefox here:

https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mobile/Platforms/Android#System_Requirements

Under the header "Download Firefox for Android", chose the option that says "download the Firefox APK file directly from our FTP servers."

Please let me know if this works for you. It works great on my 1st Gen Fire, but I do not have my Fire HD yet to test it.

Laura,

Works on the KFHD, as well. Is Marian's problem the absence of ES File Explorer by chance?

ES File Explorer

Thanks, Laura. I'm familiar with Firefox.
However, on the Fire HD when I go to the web address you gave me, most of the page is blank. I looked at the page on my PC, and the links to download that are there don't show up on the Kindle. I'm thinking that amazon REALLY doesn't want Fire HD owners to use any browser other than Silk. This is really annoying. And, of course, it's impossible to download Firefox or Dolphin or Opera via Google Play, because that won't work on the Fire HD either.

In reply to an earlier post on Oct 14, 2012 6:11:06 PM PDT
Marian - Download the Firefox apk file to you computer and e-mail it to yourself and open the e-mail on the Fire and you'll be able to download and hopefully install it that way.

Also, in Silk, go into your settings and change to "desktop" view and see if that helps you view the page on your Fire any better.

She indicated that she had downloaded and installed ES File Explorer. See Marian's first post.

Laura, I finally managed to open the Dolphin file and install it. Thanks much for all your suggestions. It's nice to have it! But one thing I don't like about Dolphin, I'm finding, is that it's orientation on the screen is fixed -- and upside down on the Fire HD. Can't use it horizontally or what is supposed to be right-side-up. There's no way around THAT, is there?

That should not be the case. The screen should rotate as you rotate the Kindle.
