Bing is now the default Kindle search engine. What a cruel joke! Bing sucks!!!~ Why can't we have the option of choosing the default search engine?

You do realize that the concept of CHOOSING a DEFAULT makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, right?

Why are you talking to other customers about this and not Amazon/Kindle support?

FYI here are the Amazon emails -
kindle-feedback@amazon.com
kindle-fire-feedback@amazon.com

Kindle support can be reached by clicking on help at the top or bottom of any Amazon page. Then the Contact Us button on the next page. Answer the questions and the correct contact info is shown

Wondering says:
Why doesn't it make sense? I'm pretty sure my computer has asked that exact question before: Would you like to make __________ your default search engine?

There's a joke in there somewhere, but I'm too sick, tired, bored to look for it.

Simple, it is an Android operating system made by Google. You would think they would at least use the company they get their operating system from for free.

Microsoft probably paid Amazon a small fee to make Bing the default. It helps keep the cost of the Fires down.

Can you change it to Google if you choose to?? I don't have a Fire so I don't know.

Of course you can change it. Just go into settings and the very first option is changing the default search engine.it is very, very simple.

FWIW if one types: "Change Fire Search Engine" into Google you get a link to the instructions on FB. On Bing I have yet to find the a link that doesn't relate to Firefox.

B. Marks says:
I also use Google search but I've used Bing quite a bit when I'm on someone else's computer who prefers Bing. I do prefer Google but Bing is good enough that it's not worth choosing it each time I make a search. I've had no problems at all with Bing.

I think my only real complaint about this is that Bing Translate is also used by the Kindle. It's fine for most languages but it doesn't translate from Latin and a lot of older books have a lot of Latin phrases. All in all, in literature, I think Latin is the most common language to translate from.

And yes I know someone will object that I'm posting this here instead of to Amazon. I have registered that complaint with Amazon but this is a forum where we can express our opinions and I think it's a perfectly appropriate place to do so.

When you click on a link in an article or email, which app does the link open in? That's the default, and it makes perfect sense that you should be able to choose which one it is. One of the biggest, oldest gripes about iOS is the lack of such a choice on iThings.

I don't know about kickbacks but I use Bing because it does all I need it to do and, in addition, I get free Amazon gift cards for using it.

Wayne, in the case you have not found it yet, tap "Web", then menu in upper left corner, then Settings. The selection of search engines it the very first entry. See, quicker than posting here.

Edit: Sorry, redundant.

Dragi Raos says:
Erich is correct: "default" is what applies if you don't select anything. Once you select something, it is not default any more, but your selection.

Ah, fine points of English.... :o)

If one has to be bribed to use a product (Bing), it makes one wonder if the product producers think their product might not be up to snuff. In this case IMO they are right.

Thank you. Google is now restored as my default browser. I still think it arrogant of Amazon to switch my preference without my consent. They could have asked.

actually Google is your default search engine - Silk is probably your actual browser

Perhaps in your estimation. I however find it has everything I need a search engine to do. My needs are simple, I guess.
