Android Launcher That Works Great for Kindle Fire HD

Very cool discovery folks. I know most Fire HD owners are aware of ADW Launcher and that it works as an alternate home screen. We're also aware of the limitations: Stuck with a black background, no use of widgets.

But last night, I downloaded a BETTER launcher that is working on my Fire HD. It's VIRE Launcher, which I downloaded from 1Mobile.com. It does the standard things of a homescreen replacement: gives you screens where you can place icons and folders. Where it differs for US, though, from ADW is that when installed, it automatically does so with a pre-installed funky red background (No more midnight black) and a cool CLOCK widget. There is also the option to install a photo-frame widget. Check it out!

Thanks, richard. Nice to hear about good finds. Actually very nice to read something new and non-charging related :-)

Thank Richard for suggesting Vire. I'm going to check it out.

There is another launcher type program on Apps for Android on Amazon called Mobile Desktop. It's a $2.99 App last time I looked. I got and am playing around with it now. It's not a true launcher in that it won't launch automatically when you start your Kindle although I'm not sure any of them do unless you ROOT your Kindle. You need to run it as an app. Anyway, Mobile Desktop gives you a blank home screen (no carousel) where you can actually set a wallpaper background of your choice. From there, you can create a home page with only the icons for the apps, games, etc that YOU want on it. You can also create sub-folders off the main screen as well as there is a premade folder structure of All Apps, Main, Games, Utilities, Others. You can arrange your apps in any of the folders by adding or deleting the apps in each folder. Like most launchers, you can't launch the Kindle reading app from the launcher (as far as I know) but a simple click on either the back arrow or the home icon and your back to the regular launcher. I'm not affiliated with the app in anyway. I just thought I'd mention Mobile Desktop as another alternative to the stock screens we're all stuck with. I also wanted to give as much detail about it as possible since it is a paid app.

If anyone else has any other launcher options that they know work please post them. I'm not trying to thread-jack Richard's thread but I hope others will share what they find.

I've tried Mobile Desktop, but wish it at least had a clock on it. Maybe in the future they will develop a limited selection of widgets for it.
