Hi, I have a 1st generation paperwhite and the backlight is off for some reason and I am unable to adjust the light at all. The lighting looks the same if I have it at either max or min. Any thoughts?

Then try rebooting it. That usually solves most problems.

Rebooted it but still no light. At least I can still read it. I just need an external light.

And when you call them, advise them the "front light" is your concern, the Paperwhite does not have a backlight because you cannot backlight e-ink screens.
