Which Kindle?

Which model Kindle - help us to help you. In general terms, do a hard reboot of the Kindle.

My kindle keyboard is doing the same thing. It will not turn on, even after being charged for 24 hours.

@S. Wilkie: Try a hard reboot - hold the power switch in the 'on' position for 30 seconds (count them) and then wait until the Kindle reboots - that will take some minutes. Unplug it from any power source and don't touch any keys until it reboots.

If that works, then turn on wireless to repopulate the archive list, which will be empty. With a working 3G connection, this will also reset the time, which the reboot set back to 1970. With a working wifi connection, you will have to go to Home, then press the Menu buttons and select Settings, then go to page 2 and reset the time manually.

I just got a Kindle Fire. I was just browsing Netflix, not even watching anything. then the screen froze. I tapped the power button and screen goes black. now it won't come back on. when i try turning it on, the button turns green for a couple seconds then goes back off. screen stays black.

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 27, 2011 10:56:51 PM PST
Jeremy - Try a reboot.
Make sure it's fully charged. Unplug the Fire.
Hold the power button in for 20 seconds (count them).
It should then reboot. The "kindle fire" screen will
appear for a couple of minutes while it's coming back on.

Just curious. will this reset the fire? will i lose everything or will it still be there?

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 27, 2011 11:06:56 PM PST
No, everything will still be there. The only way to wipe everything out is if you do a Reset to Factory Defaults. It will be okay. I've already done it twice myself. ;-)

Jeremy. Mine did the same thing and it was caused by the new software update. Do the hard reset....power button down for 20 to 30 seconds and then just let it sit and reboot. Don't be surprised if it starts doing a software download. Mine did the download, rebooted again and has been fine since then.

It worked! ;)

I've had the same type prob with my Fire. The on button has not worked properky once, even. I reboot to start it everytime. So...should the reboot process start while the button is held down or after releasing it? so far mine has not. I touch the on button a few secs after releasing it from the 20 sec hold. Then it reboots. But when done using the fire i have to go thru this same reboot process to turn it on.

i did this and it worked fine (very new kindle touch). does anyone know what this is indicative of? faulty hardware or software? is this just a kindle black screen of death? it is a little disturbing none the less.
