I already have a multiple user 4G contract for my phone. Do I need to buy the 4G Kindle version of the HD or can I buy the WIFI only and use my current Verizon contract? Excuse my ignorance but is there something in the tablet that allows you to connect to 4G or is the extra cost because of the new Verizon contract?
Thank you

The tablet has the hardware necessary for you to connect via 4G. If you don't want/need to use the 4G, then it is not necessary. If you want to, you can always use your smart phone as a hotspot and connect via that. It's up to you which way you go.

the higher price for the 4G Kindle Fire HD is for the hardware necessary to connect to 4G, if you buy a wifi only one, you cant add 4G to it

B. Marks says:
If your phone supports using it as a Wifi hotspot you have the 4G already so you can use the Wifi wherever you can use your phone. Your provider will probably have a monthly charge for doing that.

Keep in mind that most of the things 4G is useful for on an HDX can already be done on your phone, although some of those things will be easier on an HDX.

Using 4G for videos will probably use up your allotted monthly bandwidth before you finish the first video. You need Wifi for that. Both the phone and the tablet can check email and do web browsing, although that's easier and more pleasant on a larger screen.
