It's here. It has a collections feature. If I could get the person/team who designed and programmed the collections feature into a room, I would make them personally use it for several weeks with several hundred books. And I would ask them why the collections feature on amazon's own flagship Kindle Fire isn't as good as the one amazon added to the iOS Kindle app (4.0), and it leaves a lot to be desired. The iOS Kindle app sorts collections two ways (title/recent); the new HDX 3.1 sorts collections by title only. The iOS version shows the number of items in a collection, the HDX version, nada. Dear amazon Kindle team, next time you design, program, or update your collections feature, please consult a few, you know, actual users, ones who have a lot of books (people with not very many books don't need collections). I'm not going to list all the defects because most people here don't care. But grrrrrrrrr.

Oh, yes. Having collections at all is an improvement. But it's always an afterthought for them, even though they keep trying to sell you more stuff. And it wouldn't hurt for them to have a real cloud collections, one where you could actually manage them through the Manage Your Kindle page. I looked, and there doesn't seem to be one, at least not yet. This would be nice for people who archive most of their stuff. It also captured every collection I ever created on my e-ink Kindles, even collections I've deleted. Had to delete everything except what I set up on the iPad. And it's taking its own sweet time to populate them.

Sounds to me like it works exactly the same as it does on all Kindle devices. Also.. your arrogance and egotistical attitude (oo.. look at me.. I'm an "actual user" and nobody else is because they don't have enough books to qualify) makes anything and everything you say meaningless and worthy of being ignored by everyone, including Amazon.

Typical arrogance and entitlement of the "everyone gets a trophy" generation. When you achieve "speshul-ness" just for showing up to your soccer game, it's no wonder that you become an egotistical, self-entitled maroon when you grow up.

Just proves what my Dad always said, "Some people would complain if you hung them with a new rope."

Glad its not just me who receives the shameless, petty entitlement of recent generations, as nails on a chalkboard. 301.81 ought to be tattooed on inner lips at birth.

I'm currently at version 14.3.0.5 So.. I downloaded the update and copied the file into the "Internal Storage" folder (which is actually the root or top folder on the HDX - not really a folder to my eyes) and I then disconnected the USB cable, went to Device and then System Updates, but the only option presented is "Check Now" which comes back with "No updates found". Is it just me?

Nope, the version on my 7" HDX is 13.3.05 and my device says all software is up-to-date.

Sorry, I'm missing the reference. What does 301.81 mean?

Mine said that too, but the current update is for 13.3.1.0, which I got by manually updating my HDX.

Information, instructions, and the update can be found here:

Goodness, children, I'm a senior citizen, NOT an entitled youngster. I bought the HDX partly because of the promised collections feature. If you don't want or need such a thing, so be it. There are many of us, not just uppity me, who would like to have something a little less primitive than what amazon has provided. It does not, on a few hours use, measure up even to the version provided with the Kindle 4.0 iOS app. The update does, however, provide a bunch of nice new lock screen backgrounds. And Goodreads integration, which I haven't tried. And various other additions mostly aimed at getting you to buy more stuff. For those who've tried to update through the auto update feature, it may not be enabled yet. I downloaded mine and installed it manually. Earl J. Coons, I had no problem with it updating once I'd transferred it as you did.

Actually, an old rope would be preferable. More likely to break before it breaks your neck or strangles you.

If you aren't part of the "everyone gets a trophy" generation, then you have no excuse, which is even sadder. *rolleyes*

Entitlement is a learned behavior, so well done - its all YOUR fault, then!
