VSMiller says:
No matter what suggestions I attempt, My Computer, does not recognize Kindle Fire. It is simply identified as Removable Disc F. I am asked to provide a software driver disc which did not come with the Kindle.

Is there a way to transfer from I-Tunes library to Kindle? I would like to put my music on Kindle Fire.

I have a Kindle Touch. My computer asks me to install drivers. Another window says drivers are not needed. Have to use my husband's computer to charge my Kindle.

Gregory I am in the same boat. I have my Kindle Fire plugged into a brand new dell laptop with Windows 7. It doesn't recognize it as a drive. PLEASE HELP SOMEONE!

Winkinod says:
On the fire, try unlocking it by swiping the yellow arrow on the screen.

The fire is not asleep, nor is it locked. I've turned it off. Turned it on. Unplugged and plugged in again. Nothing.

Winkinod says:
While it is plugged in, turn it on, then swipe the yellow arrow to unlock it an give it a few seconds.

I've done what you said Winkinod... doesn't work either. I'm computer savvy. I have a regular kindle... it never gave me this problem though this is Home Premium windows 7... and a different computer.

Charlotte, there have been times when my Fire did not display a drive on my Windows 7 computer but when I pressed the on button and unlocked it with the yellow arrow it would then display a new drive for the fire. Don't know what to suggest now. Is your micro cable new?

Edit: One other thought - Don't plug the fire into a USB hub and you might try another USB port.

Tried other usb ports... nothing. I'm going to give up on it. I will end up getting a wifi app and not bothering with the usb. If you hear of a real fix, do let me know! Thanks for your help.

I can't see mine either. I don't even get the Drive F: that some of you are getting.

Does it matter that I already have a physical F: drive?

iDRMRSR says:
You need to have a Micro B USB cable. A plain old Micro USB doesn't work. I just found that out. Cheapest one on Amazon is $3 with free shipping (provided your Prime trial is still going!). I bought a case, light, and cable combo from some vendor on Amazon (off price) and the USB cable they sent didn't work. Once I got the right cable, I plugged it in to Win 7 Home Premium and "Bob" is my Uncle! Sailed right along. It did complain about not having drivers to install for "Device KINDLE", but I could go into windows explorer and view all the files on the thing.

I prefer to use the wifi app to transfer files HOWEVER...I believe you need a USB connection if you intend to ROOT the device at some point in time! Hence I got me the right cable for when that day comes.

Here's the "right" cable: RiteAV - USB A to Micro-B Cable 3 ft.

Thanks, I'll try it. I'm presently using the cable from my original Kindle... maybe that is why it doesn't work!

Turn your kindle fire OFF. Hold down the button until the Fire powers off. Plug your usb cable into your computer and wait until you receive the message your device is ready for use. Wait a few seconds until the Removable Disc F changes to Kindle F. Then unlock your fire and you should be good to go. I hope this helps.

Are you using the cable link posted IDRMRSR above or a cable from an earlier Kindle? I'm using an older one, and when plugged to the Kindle it says I can transfer files, but same thing as others are saying, it doesn't acknowledge that the Kindle is even connected to the computer. I tried what you said and that doesn't work.

I just got off the phone with customer support. After talking to three different people I was told that the old USB cable that came with my Kindle 2 works with the Kindle Fire. My computer does not recognize the Kindle Fire, it's saying it's a removable Disc F, and I cannot obtain any files in the Kindle while hooked to the computer. The tech support tells me I need to update the drivers on my computer. Why??? This is a brand new laptop. Kindle is going back to Amazon today but first I'm heading over to rate the Kindle. I'm sure you can imagine the kind of rating I'm about to give it.

Winkinod says:
P. Woodfin, you mention that it is showing removable Disc F, are you able to double click the drive F and open it to display all data folders on the drive?

In reply to an earlier post on Jan 7, 2012 3:19:55 PM PST
IT'S WORKING NOW!!!! I couldn't open any files earlier (I suspect operator error) and I just downloaded a few of my CD's. I needed to open an ITunes account and it's all running very smoothly. I was ready to toss this thing out the window with frustration. The cable that came with my K2 works fine with the Kindle Fire in case anyone needs to know. As long as you get the message you can download you are fine with that cable. Now I'm off to get on the treadmill and enjoy some music!!! Thanks to all that helped.

I am using the usb wire that came with Kindle; it is not recognized and although the yellow light has been on all day the battery says it is discharged!
And device manager says the the kindle is Q disk; my other kindle shows up as kindle!

Is the a better way??

Yep, that worked for me! I bought a cable from some other vendor that didn't work. With the one you suggested, "RiteAV - USB A to Micro-B Cable 3 ft." fixed the problem. Thanks! The other one was probably a cheap Chinese knock off.
