@ Elizabeth S H - I posted this on the other thread but was worried you would miss it:

WOW! Thank you so much. I have never ever been gifted a book before and it really touched my heart that you would do that :) I don't know quite what to say. What a lovely thing to do. Thank you so much. I am sorry if I am not meant to post this here but I had no other way of thanking you.

To everyone else, hello. I hope you all have a wonderful day. I can't stop long - got a crazy busy weekend ahead of me - but I hope you are all well, and that those of you with health issues are on the mend, and that things are looking up.

In reply to an earlier post on Mar 27, 2013 10:49:58 PM PDT
In relation to the book for April 11 - do we read the book first, then come and discuss it on that day? Or is it a read along? Sorry, I saw a post recently that made me uncertain.

In reply to an earlier post on Mar 27, 2013 11:08:25 PM PDT
Ellen, I just saw your post on yesterday thread and responded there.
Glad you are posting, this is a nice place to be.
Have a nice day.

Ellem- Read the book discussion before. We just go over our own thoughts, perceptions, questions & etc,, that night. I have only been able to do 2 and am learning from others, like I learn about so many other things on this thread, that if you read it way inadvance to maybe keep some notes or thoughts about things in the book. Unless you are a lucky one and can remember what you read 3-4 weeks ago. And if you are like me I go through so many books by the time the discussion rolls around I have forgotton some things in it. This one was such a good book and I read it day I got it I can still remember most of it but might skim a day or two before. The next one I will just wait until the day or two beforw to read it. Sorry this was a little longer answer to the simple question you asked, but was just trying to throw in a few extra pointers.

In reply to an earlier post on Mar 27, 2013 11:13:09 PM PDT
Ellem, we read the book first and participate in the discussion. It's okay if you haven't finish reading it, you can still come over and read what people have posted.

Elizabeth - thanks. I will go and read it. And thanks again, and this is indeed a lovely place to be. Being a single parent it is nice to have a spot to drop in and say hi. You have a nice day too.

No need to apologise - I appreciate your pointers. I haven't joined in a book discussion yet and am very much looking forward to it. Nope - not lucky - I forget easily. But having said that, my memory is very much emotive - so I will be able to discuss things others bring up easily :) I plan on reading it after the Easter long weekend in that case.

In reply to an earlier post on Mar 28, 2013 12:32:40 AM PDT
Thanks - and like you said, BubbaK had a great answer. But thanks for answering, lol. :) I am glad I don't have to wait, BTW - I read the first chapter before getting it and have been wanting to read it.

from my wish list. already had books 1 & 2 free, but #3 is $2.99. As far as I know it had not been offered free. Think there are 6 books in the series

The Dawning of Power (Godsland Series: Books One, Two, and Three) 4.4 stars

The debut trilogy in Brian Rathbone's The World of Godsland fantasy series. This book includes three books:

Book One - Call of the Herald
Book Two - Inherited Danger
Book Three - Dragon Ore

Echoes of the ancients' power are distant memories, tattered and faded by the passage of eons, but that is about to change. A new dawn has arrived. Latent abilities, harbored in mankind's deepest fibers, wait to be unleashed. Ancient evils awaken, and old fears ignite the fires of war.

In times such as these, ordinary people have the power to save the world . . . or destroy it.

SPIRIT DANCE: An Uncommon Love Story (The Lonefeather Series) 6 people gave 5 stars

When a Lakota Spirit-Helper guides an abused mixed-blood Sioux woman and a disillusioned Montana cowboy down converging paths, a cocky bronc rider and a headstrong cowgirl let their guards down to experience the softer side of each other, and a broken-hearted Bayou Belle falls in love with a man who harbors a terrible secret, they all unwittingly become the stepping stones of a greater purpose.

Is the first book of this Romantic Adventure Mystery based on the premise that our lives are important threads within a tapestry that is much greater than our individual selves.

It is an adult fiction laced with Native American tenets that influence the calamitous lives of a small group of people brought together by divine providence.

It is a raw, absurd, hateful, joyous, irreverent, spiritual experience that validates the adage: When you find your heart, you will find your way.

Rusty Nail - A Thriller (Jack Daniels Mysteries) by JA Konrath 282 pages

Publication Date: February 4, 2013
Lt. Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels of the Chicago Police Department is back, and once again she's up to her Armani in murder.

Someone is sending Jack snuff videos. The victims are people she knows, and they share a common trait -- each was involved in one of Jack's previous cases. With her stalwart partner hospitalized and unable to help, Jack follows a trail of death throughout the Midwest, on a collision course with the smartest and deadliest adversary she's ever known.

During the chase, Jack jeopardizes her career, her love life, and her closest friends. She also comes to a startling realization -- serial killers have families, and blood runs thick.

Rusty Nail features more of the laugh-out-loud humor and crazy characters that saturated Whiskey Sour and Bloody Mary, without sacrificing the nail-biting thrills. This is Jack Daniels's third, and most exciting, adventure yet.

Sex, drugs and rock and roll was the credo of 1970's musicians who thought the wave would go on forever. In the case of Jannie Mack and the Silver Track, their meteorological rise comes to an abrupt end on a warm june night in 1975 when Jannie disappears after a record release party. Twenty years later her daughter and a former band member lead a nation-wide crusade to find out what happened to her.

The story begins in august, 1975, in Banff National Park, where an incoherent danny tyrell witnesses the moonlit burial of a woman. the body belongs to Jannie MacDonald, the popular lead singer of Jannie Mack and the Silver Trak, who apparently has died of a drug overdose.

Twenty years later Danny Tyrell, the Trak's keyboard player,is now living in Iceland with an Icelandic girlfriend and their young daughter. He hears from the old drummer of the Silver Trak, Mike Fedeyko, that a young woman claiming to be Jannie Mack's daughter is searching for her mother and he wants Danny to fly to Halifax to speak with her. Unhappy with his life in Reykjavik - working for his girlfriend's father - Danny, still holding a torch for the dead singer, meets with Alice Johnson, Jannie's daughter, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The Polar Track by Kim Kinrade 330 pages (was free in Nov)

Publication Date: May 10, 2012
The dream of every Alaskan, since the large state was bought from Russia in 1867, is a rail link to the continental U.S. through Canada. As the new millennium unfolds the project finally becomes a reality. However, it is no ordinary railway but a magnetic-levitation conveyance allowing the train to travel the 5000 kilometers from Fairbanks to Seattle at speeds of over 500kph. Linked with this viaduct is a pipeline for a commodity which "the lower 48," especially those states in the southwest, will need in critical amounts: water. Ice melt from three large glaciers is to be shipped in large pipes suspended under the viaduct along with those carrying oil and natural gas from the Arctic tundra.

In Georgia Strait off Vancouver Island, a music teacher's family is killed in a collision with a fast-ferry owned by the same company that is building the transcontinental mag-lev line. In his hunt to find out the truth, and haunted by his perceived inaction during the deaths of his family members, Greg Majewski finds an unlikely ally in a former Canadian army sniper, Bill Whittle, who has been decorated for his prowess against the Taliban in Afghanistan. Persecuted by the large company during their search for answers the duo threatens to turn the new line into a 5000 kilometer inferno. This ignites an international manhunt spearheaded by Special Forces teams from two countries.

Heartshot (Posadas County #1) (Posadas County Mysteries) by Steven F Havill 217 pages

Publication Date: June 4, 2012
Posadas County, New Mexico, has very few mean streets and no city-slick cop shop. But it has an earnest, elected Sheriff and an aging Undersheriff-William C. Gastner.

Pushing sixty, Bill has no other life than law enforcement-and doesn't want one, even if he's being gently nudged toward retirement. Then, trouble strikes. A car full of teens, evading a traffic stop, goes airborne into a rocky outcrop, killing all five passengers and revealing a package of cocaine stashed under the seat. Has someone brought serious crime to the county?

When a second explosion of violence fells an undercover cop, the sheriff's department pulls together to make a formidable team, but its weak spot may be Bill. His mind is too tough to crumble but his long-mistreated body is gradually succumbing to stress. Ignoring all advice, he pilots the case to a final confrontation where the fate of the killer-and the cop-will be decided...

Red, Green, or Murder (Posadas County #10) (Posadas County Mysteries) by Steven F Havill 283 pages

Publication Date: May 25, 2011
Former Posadas County Sheriff Bill Gastner, now a New Mexico Livestock Inspector, is enjoying a day on Herb Torrance's ranch-soaking in the sun as he counts a small herd of cattle and thinking about an upcoming lunch with an old friend back in town. But a light breeze stirs dust, a horse spooks, and Bill finds himself ferrying a broken cowpuncher in the back of his SUV, headed out to meet an ambulance.

Moments later, Bill's day goes from bad to worse as he is summoned by undersheriff Estelle Reyes-Guzman to an investigation of an unattended death. Too impatient for Bill to finish up out at the ranch, old George Payton had decided to eat lunch on his own. A couple of bites later, he collapsed-dead of an apparent heart attack. But something isn't right. It may well have been a heart attack, Estelle agrees, but something triggered it.
Before any questions can be answered, the small herd of cattle Bill had just counted is found wandering down a county highway. But there's no sign of cowpuncher Pat Gabaldon or his boss' $40,000 truck and livestock trailer. Forced into two tangled investigations, Bill faces one of the most complex cases in his 35-year career.

Hi BubbaK

Thanks for the feedback about the book. I did not buy it while it was free so I have gone to buy it a couple of times but did not get the 'feel' I wanted to read it so I walked away to try again later. You are giving me the incentive to go and get it. I have decided it is the next book I read after the Jay Leicester #6 I am currently reading. It is great these discussions are making me read books I would never consider.

I hope you feel better today.

@KayKay: thanks for the great start, this is very much appreciated
