Is there any truth to the rumor that there will be a new version of paperwhite released this spring?

No one here can answer that. We're customers and are not privy to Amazon's plans. And if an Amazon employee did post here with an answer, they'd become an ex-employ very fast.

It is pretty unlikely, though not impossible. Amazon has consistently released new models in September or October for the Christmas buying season.

There is a good chance that it may or may not be true. Hope this helps.

No one who will say really knows.

No one who really knows will say.

One of the "new PaperWhite this Spring" rumor mongers spread / commented on similar rumors like this about earlier Kindle models...the Fire HDX features, for example. They were correct. That lends support to the idea that they might be correct on these latest rumors. Of course, the new PW this Spring rumors are also being spread by other people who were wrong about earlier rumors. I can wait a few months to see whether the rumors are true, or not. The odds are that if a new PW does not come out this Spring, a new one will be out between Summer, and Fall. How long are you willing to wait for a 3rd generation PW? Buy a 2nd Generation PW now, or wait for a future model....or do both.

I'm starting to wonder, though. That rumor is starting to decompose, and hasn't developed any legs. It was repeated a few times, but the tech press seems to have dropped it. Just because there was a prototype doesn't mean it was approved for production, and says nothing about a release schedule.

I hope it's true, though. I'm ready for a new reader.

New paperwhite 3rd generation can have TTS functions as it did in previous version?

In reply to an earlier post on Mar 18, 2014 5:23:22 PM PDT
No PaperWhite has ever had TTS. A new one could, but it does not seem likely to me. We won't know until Amazon tells us.

Same answers as above. Until Amazon makes an announcement then nobody knows
