Diane says:
How do I delete books off of my Ipad or Iphone Kindle app once I have finished reading them? I am able to delete them off of the Device part of the app but not on the Cloud part of the device?

CLS10 says:
First, books shown in the CLoud are not actually on the device. It's just cloud storage. If you want to delete those books then you have to do it from your Manage My Kindle Page---BUT NOTE that by doing so, the books are deleted from your account. If you want to read it again, you'd have to repurchase it.

If the book shows up in the "cloud" and not on the "device", then you HAVE deleted it. Amazon simply has a list of what you've bought in case you want to read it again. That's all the "cloud" is: a list.

Diane, they don't require care or feeding while in http://amazon.com/myk - I suggest you delete permanently only truly hideous ones - who knows, perhaps a friend or family member will want to read them.

Mary McManus says:
If you want your book out of the cloud, go to Manage your Kindle and delete it there. If you want to read it in the future, you will have to buy it again so be careful which books you do this with.

Hi when trying to remove some books from my device it only gives me the option to delete permanently, however it doesn't do this with most books can anyone help? I use the kindle app for iPhone.

I use the Kindle app on my iPad and iPhone. I've deleted some books via Manage my Kindle on the website, but they still show up in the Cloud on my devices. If I try to download (as a test to see what's going on) then a message comes up to tell me the licence has expired. But they just won't disappear from showing up in the Cloud. I can't see any way to delete them via iTunes. i want them gone from my list! but how?

I don't know. I've done all the reregistering the device, shutting off the device, deleting the app and anything else people have suggested, and it does the same thing for me, too.

Sorry, I'm not helpful, but I think it is a small price to pay for having the ability to use their app. It doesn't take up space on our device, and we can access all of Amazon books. So the pros outweigh the cons, IMHO.

I have the same problem. I have deleted the books from my Amazon page but they refuse to go from my iphone. It is very annoying and has only started to happen since all these fancy updates. Grhhhh... Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Sarida says:
Did you remove it from your iPhone?

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 16, 2012 5:31:19 AM PST
Mary says:
No. I am still stuck with the books on my iphone "Kindle cloud" area. Synching doesn't solve the problem. They were free books via Facebook although I don't suppose this is the reason as they did come from Amazon. I can only hope that the next update for Kindle or iOS cures the problem.

Sarida says:
Well, it's off your phone then. While it is still on your cloud, it's not taking space on your phone.

You might try shutting off your phone and turning it back on, but I bet it will still be there.

Mary says:
Yes, the stuff is still there. Oh well. At least it is not a problem with my iphone as others have it too.

Sarida says:
No, it isn't your phone.

I want to solve this same problem. I deleted unwanted titles from Manage My Kindle, but they still show up on my kindle app for iphone (4S) to download, eating up precious real estate and generally annoying the crap out of me.

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 25, 2012 9:39:58 AM PST
Sarida says:
Zeb,

Are they on your device? If so swipe to the right and delete them. Then they are off your phone.

If you can still see them on your cloud, but they are not on your device, then they are not taking up space on your phone.

Zeb Dropkin says:
@sarida,

Thanks for trying to help, but your advice is no help I'm afraid. These are items that were never downloaded. The issue has nothing to do with physical space...

1) I removed the content through Manage Your Kindle first.

2) Delete is NOT an option for these items. If there's a way to delete them, I don't see it. Clicking and holding on an item offers on Download or Cancel. Downloading fails (because they were already removed via MYK)..

Basically the iOS apps are failing to sync with the cloud and remove the deleted items. In the cloud reader on chrome, the items are already removed. Syncing the iOS apps does not help.

I suspect this is an Amazon iOS app issue, not a human one.

I was trying to reassure you that the books were not taking up space on your phone.

I'm sorry I could not be helpful :)

J. Yonuss says:
There is a device side and a cloud side for the kindle app on my iPad. The problem I have is that remove book from device and delete permanently are not consistent between books and cloud or device. For instance; cold days and trapped both said delete permanently on device side-kushiels chosen and ghost story say remove from device. When I called Amazon about this they tried to tell me I needed to pay attention to the sides. This is not true. Both sides have books that say either or.

Hi
I do not wish to sound petty, but do you not think that we have all already tried that above steps?. This problem has only arisen since the latest iOS updates so perhaps the matter needs to be addressed.

I had the same issue. I deleted and then re-installed the app and that worked for me.
