I have had 2 Kindle Paperwhite's so far. I returned the 1st because of the prominent bright spot on the left hand side.

Which you can see here -

The 2nd isn't quite as bad, but I still find it distracting and detracts from the reading experience.

Is this something other users share. Do I dare to ask for 3rd replacement?

Mine has the same thing. I don't notice it anymore, I'm too busy reading.

My replacement is about the same and I ignore it

In reply to Fud53.

So you think it's acceptable for Amazon to be shipping a product that clearly has poor quality control and does not meet specification. And yet you have the gall to accuse me of being dishonest when I quite reasonably point out the issue.

ignore fud, we all do.

Let me know if you exchange for the 3rd sample and how you like it. Mine exhibits same lighting pattern as your second sample. I have a feeling that design and/or manufacturing tolerance isn't high enough (to lower the cost) to produce consistant screens with better lighting pattern though.

One poster here had to return *9* PWs before she got a good one. NINE of them.

But my PW was beautiful, right out of the box. It's hard to say how/why that happened.

I'm on my second paperwhite, the first was replaced due to cracked screen which is unrelated to this discussion. However I've had this replacement for about 2 months and just noticed today a small patch of bright spots on the bottom left part of the screen that wasn't there before. This sounds like the issue discussed here, I too wonder if it is a tolerance issue as I have taken good care of this one. Amazon was very kind to replace the first one, while they probably would replace this one for this issue I'm not sure it iis worth the trouble since it is under the text part of the screen and doesn't interfere with reading. I'm glad they have such good CS but it's a shame their product seems to have so many problems.

And there are actually people here who believe the story.

I know this is an old thread, but I'm inclined to believe it is just individual preference. My PW has bright spot variations similar to those in that first post pic, and they don't bother me in the slightest. I literally have to stop reading and seek them to even register them.

Perhaps some people just have different visual cues than others as to what distracts them. Sort of like the way my husband thinks the TV noise is "soothing" when, to me, it is ear-shatteringly annoying.

I have one tiny pinhole of bright light on my PW screen, down around the 7 o'clock position. It's not distracting, but any more/bigger/different place, it might be.

I definitely have a bright spot at the lower left edge of my screen. I just don't see it anymore. Like the shadows on the lower part of the screen...I get pulled in to my book, and don't notice them. The tiny issues with the Paperwhite are not enough to outweigh the pluses of reading on the device. I could not like it any more than I do, it is a terrific e-reader. No more struggling to see because the light is bad, no more tiny fonts, no more having to use 2 hands to keep a book open.

I agree... it's a bit like when you buy a new home and do a walk through. You notice the smallest of details like a line of paint along the baseboard that isn't entirely straight. After about a month or two, you hardly notice that there are now scuff marks along the paint because you've moved on to just living in the house.

The worst of the tiny light bleeds from along the edges is still orders of magnitudes better than the light dispersion when I used a clip on light.

I purchased a paperwhite 3g version from amazon uk. Had a few bright spots on the screen so I returned it. The replacement also has some bright spots. Very disappointed. Will probably carry on returning them until I get one with no bright spots

Its painful to have to go through this process. I'm amazed that more people have not complained or do not seem to mind dead pixels on their screens

I hope the third one is not another disappointment

Same here. Paperwhite 2013 Wi-Fi model. Bright dots at the bottom and in a middle. Ordered a replacement.

I have had this same problem twice myself. Amazon replaced the first one. And it happened again within 6 weeks. Our kindle lives in our living room and never travels. We don't have kids or animals that could damage it. It hasn't received any abuse. I think this users question is valid. I'm in the same boat. Do I return the second one for replacement or do I just return it and get a different kindle? This is obviously a screen problem.

Same for me. Bright light in lower left with spider like shadow lines running through text. It just started last night after two years of ownership and no dropping it or anything. I had to stop reading it was so distracting. I'm sure it's past the warranty, but not sure what to do. I don't want to invest in a new one if it only lasts a couple years.
