I've looked everywhere on the internet and surprisingly, no one has asked this important question!

I have a 1st gen, too. I love it, but sometimes it locks up while I'm browsing. It's irritating. I would like an update just to fix the small quirks it has. How about some love for the people who took a chance on Amazon's first tablet? (don't get me wrong, I still LOVE my Kindle Fire)

How about an update to allow us to organize books into categories on shelves like the Nook Color has had for over two years?

Even if they do create such an update now, it's not likely to be available for the original Fire. From the time I got my first ($400) K1, people were asking for folders/collections/some means to organize their books. Collections were introduced for the K2. To this day, the K1 does not have that capability. So I think the chances that any such update will be made available for the first Fire are very slim at best.

I am waiting to see. I don;t care about OS updates but If Amazon is not going to provide feature updates (specifically for things like Cloud Photos) on the previous generation devices, sadly I will be very hesitant to buy another Amazon device. That 8.9 HD is tempting but not near as much if it is likely to not get new features after the next model comes out.

Yes, I have emailed Amazon. ;)

Sadly, the feature updates often depend upon the OS updates. And even more sadly, OS updates frequently depend on hardware updates. And those are VERY difficult to download. The first gen Kindle Fire has only 500mg of system memory compared to twice that in the second generation devices and the Android Operating system is two full major releases (2.3.5 vs. 4.0.0) behind the second generation devices.

Despite the assumption that all that has to be done to provide the same features for earlier generations of devices, it simply doesn't work that way; no more than ten gallons of water can be poured into a five gallon bucket.

I am pretty sure the Photo App would be like the Book App and Music App...basically just apps. No way does it take a super horsepower engine to run it.

Personnally, I hope and pray they don't update us w the 2nd gen software..or anything like would be an issue to put gen 2 on... BUT ....are you aware of ALL the advertising thrown on the gen 2? Major amount...popping up all over...AND. they will take it off... for $15.00!! Inlike my gen 1! Thank you! Glad I don't have memory for gen 2 or it would be done automatically!

I have the kindle fire first generation and also the kindle touch. My kindle touch is much older, and for reading, it has many more features than the fire. In fact, amazon released a major software update to the touch a few weeks ago. Some of the features missing from the fire first generation is reading progress displayed on the screen, collections, text to speech, cloud/device organization, and a few others. Further, the kindle store experience on the touch is much more fine tuned for readers than on the fire. Amazon should continue to update the fire to at least keep it up to date with the same features as the touch.

If amazon doesn't update the fire first gen, ill have to side load the kindle reading app from my Android phone to the fire because their Android reading app on my phone will have more important features for reading than the fire itself.
