Jeff C. says:
I am really let down. Here is what we are dealing with:

-Constant crashing of apps (spontaneously bringing me back to main screen).

-No response to touch screen. Graphically the unit responds, but not functionally. You sometimes have to click buttons three times.

-Web browsing issues such as random loss of scroll function unless you zoom the screen

-WiFi lock out. I had to restart the Fire for it to allow me to switch WiFi on. The setting would not stick.

-Carousel annoys the ever-lasting gobstopper out of us! Either make it something we can customize, or GET RID OF IT!

We are giving it one more week. We are so close to returning this for the Galaxy or even the iPad. We wanted a 7" screen, so the Galaxy may win here.

Amazon - FIX THIS THING WOULD YOU? I am sure we are not the only family about to walk away from the Fire.

I have not experienced one of the things you are talking about. There are ways to clear stuff from your Carousel. Not your archives, but everything else.

1. To clear apps: settings-applications-Filter by ALL APPS - App Manager-clear data.

2. Delete a video:settings-select more-applications-amazon video- clear data.

3. Clear web pages: web-menu icon- settings

Jeff,

Sounds like you should either return it or exchange it. I am not experiencing your issues. There is always the possibility you got a lemon!

Send it back.

I have not experienced any problems other than video on demand being down for a while today. I called customer service and they explained what was happening. By the way, I happen to like the carousel. When I find a movie I want to watch, I start it, pause it and when I go back to home, it is right there on the carousel ready to put on my favorites shelf for easy access for when I want to resume watching. Same thing goes for a website.

I feel bad for you having these difficulties. I've had the Fire for a couple of days and I'm not experiencing any of those problems mentioned. I've been really impressed with the Fire. Like others have recommended, I'd say exchange it if your problems continue. If you decide on another tablet, I'd highly recommend the ipad over the galaxy. I take an ipad with me everywhere.

I'm sure they will be fixed soon, if anyone has ever owned an android device you should know that they usually refine the OS builds. I'm not too concerned about this.

I am also having problems with the No response to touch screen! Have to tap three or more times, so frustrating and my kids have put it down because of it. Scroll(up/down) is also very slow. It was great the first day (Wed). Disapointing.

I'm also not experiencing any problems, and I like the carousel. Saves me from having to wade through menues everytime I go to something - like I must do on Nook Color. I like the Fire very much and it's a WHOLE lot better than first Nook Colors when they came out.

Mine works great! I do prefer to read on the Kindle 2 but the Fire is amazes me every time I turn it on. Watching movies and playing silly games it's a blast. I'm going to be 60 soon so a camera would cause me nightmares!

When I zoom in on a webpage the keyboard and touch screen are not reliable. I have only been able to actually connect to wi-fi once and that was after restarting several times. Today, I can't get online. I'm very frustrated. I WANT to love it. But... I also want it to work.

You are not the only family, Jeff.

We have three e-ink Kindles in ours (that's aside from two older Kindle keyboards, we have three new simple Kindles, and can't sing thier praises enough!)...literally about 2500 digital purchases (ebooks/movies/mp3s) through Amazon...and we just got two Fires.

Despite the Fire's exterior lack of style/design (goodness, have you ever held a Nook Color/Nook tablet in your hands--very stylish)--it's a black block of glass and plastic--we like the Amazon reading Kindles and the ecosystem/content...so, we bought these two Fires expecting a lot hardware/softare-wise...well, the "fly paper" carousel, the getting bumped off internet, the crashes, the bugs...

You are among a growing number of people who are either sending the Fire back...or waiting our 30 days to see if Amazon cares enough about loyal customers to get on the ball and do some targeted software/firmware update ASAP.

Othersie, thanks but I have enough aggravations...don't want a high-maintenance device.

I just received my Kindle Fire. I got the wi Fi set up. The screen just shows "Kindle Fire". It has been like this for about half an hour. I re set it but it still shows the same thing. I am presently charging it, the power button is orange. Does the unit have to charge more before the screen will become active??
Thanks for any help.

Crazy:

No...it comes with enough charge to get started...won't hurt to fully charge it...but, it should do its thing straight out of the box...

You need to ask for a replacement. I've not experienced a single one of these issues. After several days of use. Zero drops, keyboard works great even zoomed, etc.

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 19, 2011 11:20:58 AM PST
No. Hold the power button in to 30 seconds

There are more settings with ways to clear cookies and other clean ups while in web, bottom of screen tap icon that looks like a page, in the pop up menu tap settings, lots of tweeks in there, even a huge print if you need it.

Thank you very much. That was extremely helpful. I had chosen a video at random to show my neighbor how this thing worked, and coudn't get rid of it, but with your instructions, it's now gone!!

The button will turn green when the Fire has finished charging. My Fire took a little less than 3 hrs to fully charge from an empty battery. However, if the battery was low you should have seen the low battery message. Did you try to shutdown by holding down the button and then restart?
