What kind of Kindle are you talking about? If it is a Fire then no, you generally can't read those outside. Amazon has never said that the Kindle Fire models are any use in the sun. Only the eInk models have ever been advertised for use outdoors.

The Fire has a standard LCD screen exactly like every other tablet. There is no magic available to make it possible to use that kind of screen in sunlight.

 Ann says:
Which Kindle do you have? If it's a Fire, it has a backlit LCD screen (like any other tablet, laptop, phone, etc). Such screens aren't very good in bright sunlight.

The Kindle e-readers are great for outdoor reading.

I know, right? My cell phone is the same way. I have to find shade to see the screen.

I have the same trouble when I took my PC outside and set it up .... can't see on it no matter what I do.
