Suddenly my collections on my PW2 is all screwed up. I had reorganized the collections a few months ago after the "upgrade". Everything was in the proper category and books I had read I put in an Archive category and then removed them from the device. Things not in categories showed up on the main page. Suddenly all I can get is categories or everything. New books or samples do not show up unless I change settings to show everything on the device. I either have two pages of categories only or 17 pages of everything on the device or 78 pages of everything on the cloud. Books on the device are shown both in the categories and the main page.

Did Amazon do another upgrade? I have now. Not sure if that is recent or if it is what I have had. Also just today when I go back to the home page and then reopen a book it takes me to the right spot but when I do a page turn it brings me back several pages only just after reopening the book.

I have tried reset a couple of times and played around with the setings but nothing seem to get it right.

make sure you home page is set to

Cloud | On Device (highlighted) | My/All Items | Collections

updates tend to change Collections to Recent

As soon as I select Collections the cloud|device option is grayed out. I think that is the problem.

CBRetriever says:
you select All/My items not Books and not Collections - then on the far right select Collections

selecting Collections in the middle option does indeed grey out On Device and Cloud, so change that Collections to All/My (I can not remember which one it is) Items

That pretty much does it but for some reason my collection "Archive" does not show up.
Edit: By selecting that collection and choosing the option of show in all views I am back to where I was. Thanks. I thought that I had tried all of the possible combinations but obviously not.

it takes a while to sort it out the first time, but eventually it will work

I had it sorted but apparently I clicked on the wrong thing someplace and could not get back to where I was. Amazing how many possible combinations there are with just a few options.

Hi, please forgive my ignorance, but I have been trying to find a solution to this collection issue since the recent update to the paperwhite!
Previously, when I had Books, then Collections selected, I would have a list of collections followed by any books not in collections with the book I was currently reading immediately under the collections.
Now, the list of books under the collections doesn't put the book being read at the top and leaves it somewhere in the 9-page list, which causes me great confusion when I haven't read it for a couple of days and can't remember what I was reading.
I have tried selecting Recent instead of Collection, but it sorts the books in most recently uploaded order, not in based on what I'm reading.
Does anyone have the solution to this? I have searched online and read numerous forum posts for days on end, but cannot find how to have the book I am in the midst of reading at the top of the list!
Many thanks in advance for any help rendered.

yep, set your home page to look like this

Cloud ||| On Device (highlighted ||| My/All Items (not books or collections) ||| Collections

Hi CBRetriever!
Many thanks. I tried that and it made absolutely no difference :'(
Pressed and held the power button until the option to restart showed on the screen and did the restart... And now... it's still exactly the same. The books after the list of collections are in some order that I haven't been able to identify yet!

CBRetriever says:
check the date on your kindle - that sorting usually defaults to recent for books not in collections

And that worked!!! Hoooorrraaayyyyy! I have been searching for a solution for hours on end on and off over the last few weeks. It was driving me barmy!
For anyone reading this in future, I connected to the Wi-Fi, told the Kindle to sync and check for new items and then it worked.
Coincidentally, I had to reset the kindle to the local time as for some reason it decided that it was a time somewhere in the world that wasn't UK or where I live.
CBRetriever, thank you so much for your help :-))

Hi CBRetriever,
I am also having an issue with new downloads not showing up on my home page after the collections titles. I have to change to All Items to see the new books and letters. I can set my home page to look like this

Cloud ||| On Device (highlighted) ||| My Items ||| but then the far right Collections is greyed out

You mentioned checking the date on the Kindle. I know how to check and change the time, but how do I check the date, if possible, on a Paperwhite 2nd Gen?
Thank you for any assistance.

CBRetriever says:
turn on wireless and sync and the date/time should sort themselves out

usually if collections is greyed out the device isn't registered or hasn't connected at least once wirelessly

also try a reboot with wireless on by holding in the power button for a full 30 seconds (ignore any messages that come up and continue holding)

If I have collections on my Fire HDX, how do I use them on my new Paperwhite 2?"

Thank you for getting back to me. My PW is definitely registered (received in November), and I have rebooted it several times. The wifi gets turned on just about daily. Something else must be going on. Kindle Support will be my next stop.

Thank you for the help, though. I truly appreciate it. Have a great day (evening for you if I remember correctly).

I created a collection on my Paperwhite, then the rightmost menu had collections ungreyed and my HDX collections are visible. But are not updated.

CBRetriever says:
switch your middle setting to collections, they may be there, but not starred (visible on home page which is a menu option when you press on them); also, mine didn't import until I made a wifi and not a 3G connection

I did discover that on collections there is an option to have this visible in all views. Get the collection to show in some view, long press on the collection and one option is make visible in all views.
