We have a new, free software update available for Kindle Paperwhite which can be found here: http://www.amazon.com/kindlesoftwareupdates/paperwhite

The software update will be delivered wirelessly and includes general improvements for your Kindle Paperwhite. This update automatically downloads and installs for Kindle Paperwhite customers; however, you can also manually download the software and update your device via USB cable.

If you have any questions or need help with this update, please visit the Kindle Help Forum: http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/forums/kindleqna/ref=kindle_help_forum_gd

The Kindle PW will spoil you for any other eInk Kindle. The built-in light is fantastic. It makes it very hard to want to use my older Kindle eInks because they are so dark looking!

Sondra, I agree with Lesley. The PW is great and I'm sure you'll like reading on it. It comes with a usb cable which is used for both data transfer and charging. You can also use the wall charger from your Touch or any other micro-usb charger from cell phones or other electronics so you don't need to buy another wall charger.

I use a case with mine which supports the auto sleep/wake function and recommend that you consider purchasing one. The Amazon case is expensive but is probably the best. I use this Moko case which is much less expensive and I'm very satisfied with it: MoKo Cover Case for Amazon All-New Kindle Paperwhite (Both 2012 and 2013 versions with 6" Display and Built-in Light), BLACK (With Smart Auto Sleep/Wake feature)

I have kindle keyboard, fire, touch, and paperwhite. I like the paperwhite but have had more problems with it than all the others combined. Problems with it rebooting itself or hanging. Hopefully this software up just out will resolve the problems.

I am a night reader at bed time. I love the paperwhile. Doesnt bother my husband with a bright light. You can adjust the light to your liking. I would go for it.

Sondra, I also have a touch and got a paperwhite to use at night. Love the paperwhite so much more. The touch update helped a lot but the paperwhite is still better. The only drawback to the paperwhite is it has less storage but if you get the 3G model you will always have access to the cloud so that's not an issue for most people.Don't forget to order the plug with your paperwhite as it doesn't come with it and I think it's cheaper to order together. I also got theAmazon Kindle Paperwhite Leather Cover, Royal Purple (does not fit Kindle or Kindle Touch)

167 MB of "general improvements". Amazing.

Why amazing? Sometimes you need to uninstall an application and replace it entirely even if the difference is minimal.

A little more transparency would be nice.

Otherwise the more paranoid among us will wonder.....

My Kindle works fine. I'm delighted with my Paperwhite. The update loaded manually without a glitch. I'm happy.

[Deleted post that was meant for a Kindle Fire 7" vs 8" thread.]

Andrys ~

Did you post this in the incorrect thread? I'm unclear how this ties in with the PW software update...

Posted on Mar 16, 2013 8:35:55 AM PDT
Tink,
I sure did post it in the wrong thread. Was looking at this software update thread and had another window open on the Kindle Fire HD 7" or 8.9"? thread. Thanks!

The paper white 's newest commercial is fantastic! Finally someone isn't afraid to do something like that. It makes me want to just buy all of your kindles. Thank you.
