wireless setting is not responding on kindle

This kindle fire. Trying to connect to wifi. The wireless name is provided. The screen to enter password does not appear. I get a message indicating: setting is not responding, do you want to wait or close. It closes on its on after a brief period. I do not have this problem with any other server. The airplane mode is off.
