Am I able to move books from kindle 3 to kindle fire? and vice versa
depends on where I am reading to what device I want to use

As long as both devices are registered to the same account, you can download any or all of the books purchased on the account to each device.

But you send them from your manage your kindle library, not from your kindle itself. Strange that a "kindle forum pro" wouldn't mention that rather useful bit of information.

Unnecessary step. The archive is visible from the Kindle and can be downloaded directly from it.

Wifi is not working in my current location but ethernet does. Can I download a book on my mac and send it to my basic Kindle via USB or at a location with wifi?

Kribu says:
Yes, you can download the book (you have to choose Transfer via Computer and then specify the Kindle you want the book for) and then transfer that file to the Kindle via USB cable.

Downloaded Kindle ebooks are coded for a specific device, so you cannot open a file meant for your actual Kindle in another Kindle app or Kindle for Mac, and vice versa.

i have an older kindle model doo901 and a newer version kindle touch Can I transfer books from the newer kindle to the older version? Do I have to archive them first?

In reply to an earlier post on Oct 15, 2012 11:10:21 PM PDT
@Hellsbells: Register the new one to the same account as the books are on, and then the books will be listed in the archived items list on the new one. You can download them to the Home page from there - just make sure that you have the wireless on and working. You can have the books on up to 6 devices simultaneously in most cases. You don't have to archive them from the old one.

R. Wilde says:
There are a couple of options.

From your tablet, download it from the Cloud.
From the Amazon web site's Manage Your Kindle page, use teh Action menu to send the book to your tablet.

I am sure this is an old question but I am not very techy. I had an android device that crashed. I have a new android device that I downloaded the kindle app to. I am trying to get all of my books to the new device. I registered the device to my amazon account and sync'd. The books are showing in the kindle library but not on the device library. I can't open any of the books without an internet connection...what am I doing wrong?

@judy Weiss, first open the Kindle app on the iPad that does not have the books. Make sure you're on the library page, which has the list of "All Items" you own. Make sure you're connected to the internet. Down at the bottom of the page you will see a button that says Cloud and a button that says Device. Click the Cloud button. Now you should see all of the books that you have on the other iPad along with any books you bought from Amazon on your desktop computer or another device. Hooray!

To download those books to the iPad (so you can get to them when you're not connected to the internet) click on the icon of the book cover. You will see a download progress bar appear on the book cover. Once the download is complete, a gray "ribbon" will appear across the top right corner with NEW written on it. That book is done now; on to the next!
